  • Patent number: 8755058
Abstract: A system and method for self-publishing includes components reflecting an author's intent with respect to other contributors and readers. Embodiments may include an object model which manages permissions to permit contributors to contribute content and services to the book to replace aspects of the traditional publishing process, and to offer new opportunities for republishing a book. A book may be an electronic book comprising context associated with a focus in the book which is reflected in schema underlying the book. Content may be added by contributors, and different versions of the book may be published with the new content. Ratings and other business intelligence may be provided to the original author to aid selection of contributors and content. A resulting book may be published electronically or as a hard copy.

  • Publication number: 20140142483
Abstract: An outrigger suitable for use with a dynamic splint, the outrigger comprising a support, a lever pivotally connected to the support, and spring means cooperating between the support and the lever to urge the lever to pivot towards a first position, wherein the outrigger further comprises means for adjustably affixing the support to a mounting assembly. The spring means can comprise a coil spring or a cam and cam follower arrangement and the location of the pivot between the lever and support and a joint of a user is suitably configurable, via adjustment of the location of the outrigger on the mounting assembly to provide a substantially constant restoring force to an affected body part throughout a range of movement of the splint. The splint can be used to treat a range of body parts, including finger joints, knee joints, ankle joints, for example.

  • Patent number: 8732586
Abstract: Status of complex system functions is diagnosed and reported by analyzing traffic on a data network of the complex system. The network traffic may be placed on the data network by systems that perform functions for the complex system. A user may make a view selection via a remote user interface. The view selection identifies rules for determining a status of a selected subset of the functions or a status of selected ones of the functions for a selected state of operation, such as during initial power-up. The status of the functions may be determined from the network traffic using the rules and presented to the user via the user interface. The user may interact with the presentation to make different view selections. Multiple different view selections made via multiple different user interfaces may be supported simultaneously.

  • Patent number: 8718762
Abstract: A cardiac medical device and associated method control delivery of dual chamber burst pacing pulses in response to detecting tachycardia. In one embodiment, a single chamber pacing pulse is delivered in response to detecting a tachycardia. Dual chamber pacing pulses are delivered subsequent to the single chamber pacing pulse. An intrinsic depolarization is sensed subsequent to delivering the dual chamber pacing pulses. The tachycardia episode is classified in response to the sensed intrinsic depolarization.

  • Patent number: 8479865
Abstract: A golf cart safety apparatus in accordance with the principles of the present invention reduces the incidence of injured protruding limbs A safety pedal is provided that prevents the golf cart from operating unless engaged. The safety pedal comprises a hinge, a “kill switch”, and a platform upon which an occupant's foot can rest. The hinge is secured to a floor of the golf cart and the platform. The “kill switch”, which prevents the golf cart from operating unless depressed, is operably associated with the platform. Because the foot of the occupant must engage the safety pedal in order to disable the “kill switch”, the occupant's leg must be properly positioned inside the golf cart. Thus, a golf cart safety apparatus in accordance with the principles of the present invention reduces the incidences of golf cart injuries.
