  • Patent number: 4348740
Abstract: Method and portable processor for storing and comparing sets of personal data relating to personal preferences and personality. First and second portable processing units each include a processor, a memory, an input device, a display device, and a connector. The owner of a portable processor can enter personal data via the input device of the portable processor in response to a questionnaire. The owner of that portable processor may then meet another person having a similar or identical portable processor storing that person's personal data. The two persons can interconnect the two portable processors by means of the connectors. Each portable processor transmits its data to the other and compares its stored data with corresponding data received from the other portable processor. Stored algorithms in each portable processor operate on the compared data to compute a score representing the degree of personal compatibility of the two persons and display the score by means of the respective display devices.

  • Patent number: 4281246
Abstract: An interface between a liquid chromatograph and a mass spectrometer is provided for conducting a liquid stream from the chromatograph to the spectrometer. The stream passes from the chromatograph continuously along a tapered concentrator wire toward the narrow end of the wire. The stream is heated in order to evaporate solvent therefrom and to increase the concentration of the solute therein. When the stream reaches the narrow end of the wire, the vacuum created by the mass spectrometer draws the stream through an elongated capillary tube which has a pointed carrier wire positioned therein. A gap is provided in the tube where the tube and the carrier wire intersect the concentrator wire. The capillary tube is either formed with a reduced diameter at one end adjacent the spectrometer or the carrier wire has a ball of solder at that end in order to partially restrict the flow through the tube.

  • Patent number: 4010689
Abstract: A fuze for accurately sensing the distance to a target irrespective of the resence of a medium intermediate of the fuze and the target. The fuze includes a source of radiation which is transmitted to the target and a detector which detects the backscatter from the target and intervening media. The detector output is amplified in an amplifier connected thereto and filtered in a filter connected to the amplifier to provide an output signal which is threshold detected in a threshold device connected to the amplifier. The threshold detected signal is applied to a firing circuit to provide a signal responsive to a predetermined distance above the target.
