Publication number: 20020179315Abstract: An enclosure for a circuit on a printed circuit board consisting of two boxes fastened to the opposite sides of the printed circuit board. The boxes each have one open side which faces the printed circuit board and seals against it by means of a gasket, creating protected areas under the boxes on both sides of the printed circuit board. The boxes are offset so that protected areas on one side of the board are directly opposite both protected and unprotected areas on the other side of the board. This allows the top sides of connectors, terminals, and feed-through fittings installed on the board to be unprotected and accessible, while their solder sides are protected as are all components of the circuit and interconnecting wiring on both sides of the board.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 29, 2001Publication date: December 5, 2002Inventor: Thomas Edward Brown

Patent number: 6202387Abstract: An apparatus and method for banding a wrapped silverware arrangement with a two-sided segment of banding material bearing a treatable adhesive on one side thereof utilizes a pair of jaw members which are movable between open and closed conditions for capturing a wrapped silverware arrangement and a clamp assembly for releasably holding an end of a banding material segment. With an end of the banding material segment held by the clamp assembly and the jaw members being disposed in an open condition, the jaw members are lowered onto a wrapped silverware arrangement so that the banding material segment is draped across the wrapped silverware arrangement and so that subsequent movement of the jaw members to the closed condition captures the silverware arrangement between the jaw members and positions the banding material segment in an inverted U-shaped orientation about the wrapped silverware arrangement.Type: GrantFiled: September 2, 1999Date of Patent: March 20, 2001Inventors: William Edward Brown, Dwight Clanton, Reginald M. Mudd, Charles Woodard Gray

Patent number: 6163090Abstract: A linear actuator includes a stationary stator and an external armature moving with a coil moving within a magnetic structure. A linear bearing including a stationary track fastened to the stator and a moving track fastened to the armature extends on each side of the magnetic structure. In each linear bearing, balls rotate between the stationary and moving tracks with movement of the armature. During the process of manufacturing the linear actuator, the moving track of each linear bearing is loosely mounted to the armature, a pre-load force is applied to the moving track using a tool fastened to the armature, and the moving track is clamped in place so that the pre-load force is subsequently maintained.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 1999Date of Patent: December 19, 2000Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Robert Edward Brown, Christian J. Patent number: 6023913Abstract: An apparatus and method for wrapping a napkin about silverware items into a wrapped arrangement involves a worktable within which is provided an upwardly-opening trough for accepting a napkin and silverware items positioned therein. The napkin is automatically placed over the opening of the trough in a spread condition and then silverware items are automatically directed onto the napkin so that the silverware falls to the bottom of the trough thereby positioning the napkin between the silverware and the bottom of the trough. A rotatable blade is positioned within the trough for automatically spinning the napkin and silverware items about the longitudinal axis of the trough until the napkin and silverware items are wound in a wrapped arrangement. The wrapped arrangement is thereafter removed from the trough in preparation of a subsequent napkin-wrapping operation.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 1998Date of Patent: February 15, 2000Assignee: Reginald M. Patent number: 6023171Abstract: A dual contact probe tip is provided within a flying probe circuit tester to make separate electrical contacts with a circuit under test at two closely-spaced test points. The tip includes a mounting block having an attachment section attached to a carriage of the tester and a pair of flexible cantilever sections, with a probe pin extending from a distal end of each of these cantilever sections to make contact with the circuit. One electrical path is established through the conductive mounting block and one of the probe pins. The other probe pin is coated with an insulating material except for its point and for a surface to which a wire is soldered, so that the other electrical path is established through this other probe pin and the attached wire. Each probe pin is tapered toward its point, and the probe pins extend from the mounting block at an oblique angle toward one another.Type: GrantFiled: August 13, 1997Date of Patent: February 8, 2000Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: James Edward Boyette, Jr., Robert Edward Brown, Christian J. Patent number: 5757159Abstract: An actuator providing Z-direction movement within a positioning system extends between an input stage and an output stage. A nut is mounted to rotate on the input stage in threaded engagement with a screw extending into the nut from the output stage. The nut is driven by a motor also mounted on the input stage. A plate attached to the output stage through a flexible leaf spring slides along the input stage in the Z-direction with movement of the output stage, preventing rotation of the output stage about the axis of the screw. Lateral positioning of the screw results from the threaded engagement of the screw and nut. The leaf spring is formed to provide a lateral pre-load force between the screw and nut.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 1996Date of Patent: May 26, 1998Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: James Edward Boyette, Jr., Robert Edward Brown

Patent number: 5184477Abstract: The portable cart a cooler is made by having a vinyl roller on one of its carry handles. There are two roller handle stops or locks that are in the walls of the cooler body, they are on direct opposite sides from each other. They allow for the locking of the roller handle in position for the carting or towing feature of this invention. The pull or tow handle of the cooler is longer in length than the roller handle to allow user to walk in an upright position and to keep cooler from striking users heels when towing. As stated earlier ordinary portable coolers, ice chests do not have the features of this cart a cooler invention, therefore the cart a cooler could be classified a new and useful improvement over older objects considered to be portable coolers, ice chests.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 1991Date of Patent: February 9, 1993Inventors: J.
