  • Patent number: 9747484
Abstract: An imaging sensor of an imaging reader senses return light from a target to be read by image capture along an imaging axis over a field of view that extends along mutually orthogonal, horizontal and vertical axes. Two aiming light assemblies are offset from the sensor and are spaced apart along the horizontal axis at opposite sides of the sensor, and direct two aiming light lines, each having a predetermined brightness, at the target. The aiming lines are collinear along the horizontal axis and have inner linear end regions that overlap on the target to form a bright, linear, aiming mark having a brightness greater than the predetermined brightness to visually indicate a center zone of the field of view, as well as outer linear end regions that visually indicate approximate end limits of the field of view, over a range of working distances.

  • Publication number: 20170241829
Abstract: A weighing scale is provided at a product processing workstation having a horizontal bed for supporting a horizontal bed window and an upright raised tower for supporting an upright tower window. A platter is mounted on the scale for joint movement therewith. The platter has a horizontal platter portion at least partly overlying the horizontal bed, and an upright platter portion at least partly overlying the raised tower. A guard on the upright platter portion overlies parts of the workstation for reducing weighing errors associated with weighing a product on the scale. The guard prevents the product from contacting and resting on the parts of the workstation and from being erroneously weighed.

  • Patent number: 9740903
Abstract: An illumination light source emits illumination light toward a target to be read by image capture. An imaging assembly captures the illumination light returning from the target along an imaging axis over a field of view that extends along mutually orthogonal, first and second directions that are generally perpendicular to the imaging axis. A compound parabolic reflector receives, and optically modifies, the emitted illumination light to generate a generally uniform illumination light pattern that is substantially congruent to, and substantially overlaps, the field of view along both of the first and second directions. The compound parabolic reflector has first and second pairs of parabolic segments for respectively reflecting the emitted illumination light over first and second illumination angles along the first and second directions.

  • Patent number: 9697406
Abstract: A pair of overhead mirror portions splits a field of view of an imager into first and second subfields of view. An illuminating assembly is energized to illuminate a target. A first part of the imager is exposed to capture return illumination light from the target passing through a horizontal window of a workstation over the first subfield of view, and a second part of the imager is exposed to capture return illumination light from the target passing through the horizontal window over the second subfield of view.

  • Patent number: 9667761
Abstract: A mobile device having a camera is adapted to serve as an electro-optical reader for electro-optically reading targets. The device is received and held in a housing having a rear wall. A top extension extends away from the rear wall at a top region of the device. A fold mirror is mounted on the top extension and is spaced away from a camera lens of the device. The fold mirror is inclined relative the rear wall and is operative for receiving at least a portion of a field of view imaged by the camera from each target along a first direction, and for folding and redirecting the field of view along a second direction generally perpendicular to the rear wall through the camera lens to the camera. A handle having a trigger assembly may be connected to the housing.

  • Patent number: 9639731
Abstract: A compact optical arrangement splits the field of view of an upwardly-looking imager into a plurality of intersecting subfields along which return light from a target passes through and past an upright window to the imager. A top mirror is positioned along a vertical axis directly above the imager. Overhead mirror portions located between the imager and the top mirror are spaced radially apart to enable the return light reflected by the top mirror to bypass the overhead mirror portions and pass unobstructedly directly to the imager along a central subfield. A plurality of side fold mirrors reflects the return light passing through the upright window to the overhead mirror portions. The overhead mirror portions are positioned apart to enable the return light reflected by the side fold mirrors to pass to the imager along a pair of outer subfields.

  • Publication number: 20170083732
Abstract: An optical assembly for an electro-optical reader includes a lens mounted in a stepped barrel. The stepped barrel has a barrel step between first and second barrel portions. The optical assembly is installed along an optical axis in a stepped chassis having a first chassis section that receives the first barrel portion with a slip fit in which a mechanical clearance exists between the first chassis section and the first barrel portion, a second chassis section that receives the second barrel portion with an engagement fit in which the second barrel portion frictionally moves against the second chassis section, and a chassis step between the first and second chassis sections. The chassis step is spaced away from the barrel step after installation of the optical assembly to bound a debris compartment to trap any debris resulting from the frictional movement of the second barrel portion against the second chassis section.

  • Patent number: 9524406
Abstract: A workstation electro-optically reads targets by image capture, and includes a housing, a generally planar window, an imaging module, and a generally planar fold mirror between the window and the module. The module has an illuminating light assembly for directing illumination light along an illumination path through the window at a target for return therefrom during reading, and an image sensing assembly for detecting return illumination light through the window along an imaging path over an imaging field of view during reading. The fold mirror folds the illumination and the imaging paths. The fold mirror and the window lie in planes that are substantially parallel to each other to prevent reflections of the illumination light off of the fold mirror and the window from entering the imaging field of view as virtual images that degrade target detection by the image sensing assembly.

  • Publication number: 20160335856
Abstract: A bioptical workstation captures images of illuminated symbols with a solid-state imager. The workstation is field-upgradeable by installation of a camera module in the workstation away from the imager. The camera module captures an image of the operator through an upright window. The captured image of the illuminated symbol and the captured image of the operator are independently processed. The image of the operator is captured only with ambient light.

  • Patent number: 9367723
Abstract: A cordless, electro-optical reader is compatibly docked with different docking stations having station contacts located at different locations. A rechargeable battery is mounted in a housing that extends along a longitudinal axis. Multiple housing contacts are located on the housing. Some housing contacts conduct electrical power to recharge the battery; other housing contacts conduct electrical signals to and from a controller. Each housing contact has one exposed contact portion facing in a first direction, e.g., axially along the longitudinal axis, to make electro-mechanical contact with station contacts located at one location of one docking station, and another exposed contact portion facing in a different second direction, e.g., transversely of the longitudinal axis, to make electro-mechanical contact with station contacts located at another location of another docking station.

  • Publication number: 20150334282
Abstract: Targets to be read by image capture are illuminated and imaged over an extended range of working distances. A near imager captures return light over a relatively wide imaging field of view from a target located in a close-in region of the range. A far imager captures return light over a relatively narrow imaging field of view from a target located in a far-out region of the range. A single illuminating light assembly is shared by both the near and far imagers. An illumination light source emits illumination light, and an illuminating lens assembly optically modifies the emitted illumination light, and simultaneously illuminates a wide illumination field to illuminate the target located in the close-in region of the range, and a narrow illumination field to illuminate the target located in the far-out region of the range.

  • Patent number: 9064765
Abstract: An apparatus for, and a method of, electro-optically reading a target by image capture, employ a scan engine in a handheld housing having a tilted handle. A single tilted printed circuit board (PCB) in the handle has front and rear surfaces that respectively face toward and away from the target during reading. An optical assembly having a pair of fold mirrors is mounted on the rear surface, for receiving return light from the target through an aperture in the PCB along the horizontal, and for directing the return light along an internal folded optical path. An imaging lens assembly is mounted between the fold mirrors and has an imaging axis that extends generally parallel to the PCB. The imaging lens assembly projects the return light onto a solid-state, two-dimensional, image sensor to enable the return light to be detected over a field of view, and to generate an electrical signal indicative of the detected return light.
