  • Patent number: 7765631
Abstract: A power tool (10) is provided having a plastic casing (12) and a scraper blade (14). The blade (14) is caused to reciprocate by an internal low power rotary motor (24) which drives a cylinder cam (28) having a sinusoidal cam track (34). A pair of studs (36) ride in the cam track (34), and drive the reciprocal movement of the blade (14). The tool (10) is substantially sealed against liquid ingress by means of an elastomeric membrane within the casing (12), and may be used as a marine growth remover, for defouling boats and the like.

  • Patent number: 7743847
Abstract: A number of cam-operated devices such as power tools (10) are described, the tools having a rotary drive device (24) for rotating a drive shaft (36) having a cylinder cam (42) mounted thereon. A pair of cam followers (54) are located within a cam track (44) provided on the cam member (42), such that rotation of the cam (42) causes axial movement of the cam followers (54), which may be attached to a drive shaft (48) and a tool bit (12). A range of shapes of cam track (44) are described, each of which is non-sinusoidal in shape. Various embodiments of the invention provide non-sinusoidal cam tracks having forward or rearward throw sections which are respectively steeper, shorter, or provide greater acceleration of the cam followers than sinusoidal cam tracks of equivalent wavelength and amplitude. Related piston and cylinder devices and reciprocal drive devices are also described.

  • Publication number: 20100129042
Abstract: A packaged fused-fiber device includes a fused-fiber device having at least one input fiber and at least one output fiber, and a fused portion between the input fiber and output fiber. A concave shaped substrate has an inside surface and an outside surface, wherein a minimum distance from the inside surface to the outside surface that is generally set by the substrate thickness is substantially constant throughout the substrate. An affixment material secures the first and second ends of the fused portion to the inside surface of the substrate. A thermally conductive housing is in thermal contact with the outside surface of the substrate. In one embodiment the substrate has an L-shaped cross section and the housing is a hollow housing that has a rectangular cross section.

  • Patent number: 7676623
Abstract: Methods and systems for discovering whether a given connection to an InfiniBand port is a standard InfiniBand connection or a non-standard connection (e.g., indicating the presence of a proprietary device) are provided. The discovery may be performed by an end node, such that the end node interoperates with all standard InfiniBand components. Specific actions that are vendor unique, and potentially not compliant with the InfiniBand architecture, may not be done until after the discovery is complete and it has been verified that the noncompliant action will only be directed to entities know to be capable of processing them. These actions may include assuming the configuration responsibilities that would have been performed by the Subnet Manager in a standard InfiniBand network.

  • Publication number: 20090204632
Abstract: Methods and other embodiments associated with performing an in-memory triangulation of an arbitrarily large data set are described. One example method for performing in-memory triangulation of an arbitrarily large data set includes striping a data set into multiple stripes, selecting a first stripe to triangulate, and then performing an in-memory triangulation on the stripe. The method may also include removing certain triangles from the triangulated irregular network produced by the triangulation, merging another stripe with the leftover data, and repeating the process until the arbitrarily large data set has been triangulated piece-by-piece, with the triangulations occurring in memory.

  • Patent number: 7532098
Abstract: An actuator includes an electromagnetic coil arrangement that is movable relative to a magnetic field generator between a first position and a second position of the actuator. The actuator is arranged such that when the actuator is in the first position, a pulse of current through the electromagnetic coil arrangement produces a region of magnetic field that repels the magnetic field generator from the first position and attracts the magnetic field generator towards the second position to move the actuator to the second position.

  • Publication number: 20070293451
Abstract: Hsp110 proteins are shown herein to stabilize nascent ApoB protein. Methods of down-regulating expression of ApoB, and thus down-regulating serum cholesterol levels, are therefore, provided, including, without limitation, inhibition of Hsp110 expression by any method, for example and without limitation, by RNA interference (RNAi). It also has been found that ApoB gene-containing cells are useful in identifying compounds and genes that affect the expression of longer forms of ApoB. Lastly, a firefly luciferase-derived polypeptide is shown herein to bind the peptide binding site of Hsp110, thus serving as a powerful analytical reagent for identifying compounds, such as small molecule compounds, that would interfere with Hsp110-moderated stabilization of ApoB.

  • Publication number: 20070254403
Abstract: A packaged micromechanical device (100) having a blocking material (116) encapsulating debris-generating regions thereof. The blocking material (116) prevents the generation of debris that could interfere with the operation of the micromechanical device (100). Debris-generating regions of the device (100), including debris-creating sidewalls and any debris-harboring cavities, as well as electrical connections (108) linking the device (100) to the package substrate (102) are encapsulated by the blocking material (116). The blocking material (116) avoids contact with any debris-intolerant regions (118) of the device (100). A package lid (122), which is glass in the case of many DMD packages, seals the device (100) in package cavity (120).

  • Patent number: 7165932
Abstract: A fuel pump includes a housing, and a motor. A single sided impeller has first and second impeller flow channels each including a plurality of vanes. The impeller defines a flow passageway extending therethrough. A cover is attached to the housing and has a cover surface that defines first and second cover flow channels. The cover flow channels receive fuel from inlets formed in the cover. The first and second cover flow channels are aligned with the first and second impeller flow channels and receive fuel through the inlets and deliver fuel to outlets. A body is positioned within the housing and defines an impeller chamber to receive the impeller, and a first outlet passageway fluidically connected to the first cover flow channel and impeller flow channel. A second outlet passageway formed within the cover is fluidically connected to the second cover flow channel and impeller flow channel.

  • Patent number: 7163239
Abstract: An actuator assembly includes an actuator drivingly connected to a gear wheel. The gear wheel includes an abutment secured rotationally fast having a camming surface and operable to drive an output member. The actuator assembly is operable to apply a force in a first direction to drive the output member in the first direction from a rest condition to an actuated condition and is operable to apply a force in a second direction to drive the output member in the second direction from the actuated condition to the rest condition. Movement of the output member in the second direction stores energy in the energy storage device, and movement of the output member in the first direction is assisted by the energy storage device. When the actuator assembly is in the rest condition, a detent engages the energy storage device to releasably retain the energy storage device in a rest position.

  • Patent number: 7070214
Abstract: A lock mechanism has a manually actuable element, a lock lever and an actuator, with the manually actuable element connected to the lock lever via a transmission path. The transmission path includes a rigid link with an end defining an abutment for selectively driving the lock lever. A drive feature couples the abutment to the lock lever when the lock lever is rotated between locked and unlocked positions by operation of the manually actuable element. The drive feature decouples the abutment from the lock lever when the manually actuable element is actuated in an attempt to move the lock lever from a superlocked position, allowing the abutment to move relative to the lock lever.
