Patent number: 9168935Abstract: A speed profile for an entire train trip includes a maximum allowable speed at each point of the entire trip, taking into account the ability of the train to comply with speed reductions encountered during the trip. The speed profile includes a braking curve that gradually reduces from a higher speed to a lower speed starting at a point at which the train must begin braking in order to be traveling at the lower speed when the train reaches the point at which the lower speed limit begins. The speed profile is generated on multiple wayside computers, cross checked, and then vitally transmitted to an onboard locomotive control system. The onboard control system includes redundant speed sensors with redundant vital circuits, and also includes redundant speed comparators to ensure that the train doesn't exceed the speed profile. A GPS receiver may be used for greater reliability.Type: GrantFiled: August 12, 2013Date of Patent: October 27, 2015Assignee: Siemens Industry, Inc.Inventors: Mark Edward Kane, Harrison Thomas Hickenlooper

Patent number: 8195310Abstract: A machine tool program editor is used to insert auxiliary operations e.g. measurement, process control and program logic into a CNC work producing program. The editor has representations of the operations which can be placed in the correct position in the program. User input in the form of parameters is prompted when a representation is selected. The program is post processed and run on a machine tool whereat the operations are performed.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 2005Date of Patent: June 5, 2012Assignee: Renishaw PLCInventors: John Charles Ould, Sam Hawke Whale, Kevin James Tett, Matthew James Powley, Alexander Edward Kane

Patent number: 8095253Abstract: A fuel efficiency improvement device for use on each of a plurality of locomotives in a consist includes a processor configured to transmit an initialization message including an identifier and power and fuel consumption rate information for the locomotive on which it is installed to all other locomotives in the consist. One of the devices is chosen to act as a lead device. The lead device is responsible for determining alternative throttle notch settings for each of the locomotives based on the power and fuel consumption rate information in the initialization message. The lead device may be chosen on the basis of identifiers in the initialization messages such as serial numbers. The alternative throttle settings may be determined using greedy value and maximum power calculations.Type: GrantFiled: July 24, 2008Date of Patent: January 10, 2012Assignee: Invensys Rail CorporationInventors: Mark Edward Kane, John D. Patent number: 8000982Abstract: The present invention provides networks and method for linking consumers and nutritional pharmacogeneticists offering personalized nutritional information through a central network site. The network includes a central integration site through which network members communicate with each other. The central integration site stores two or more databases in the storage medium. The databases store biochemical marker data information, nutritional and/or drug data information including a record for association and effect of nutrients with a particular biochemical marker, and/or drug. The network of the invention provides individualized nutritional diagnostic and treatment to consumers on the basis of their genetic test results.Type: GrantFiled: March 19, 2008Date of Patent: August 16, 2011Assignee: Body Bio, Inc.Inventors: Edward Kane, Patricia Kane

Publication number: 20100253548Abstract: An end of train unit includes a positioning system such as a GPS receiver and is configured to transmit a message including the EOT unit's location when the EOT unit detects a loss of air pipe pressure and/or it is tipped over and/or a low battery condition is detected. In highly preferred embodiments, the EOT unit periodically re-transmits the message until an acknowledgment message is received. In some embodiments, information from the positioning system is used to create a signal as a substitute for a motion sensor. In other embodiments, information from the positioning system is used to determine the speed of the end of the train. End of train unit tracking is also performed.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 21, 2010Publication date: October 7, 2010Applicant: INVENSYS RAIL CORPORATIONInventors: Mark Edward KANE, James Francis Shockley, John D. Publication number: 20100213321Abstract: An EOT unit detects an excessive end of train force using an accelerometer and reports the excessive force. The report may be made to a device located off the train, to an event recorder in the EOT unit, and/or to another device located on the train such as a head of train unit and/or an event recorder located outside the EOT unit. The accelerometer may be a singe, dual, or tri-axial accelerometer. The message may be sent in response to the detection of the excessive acceleration or may be part of a periodically transmitted message from the EOT unit to a HOT unit. A HOT unit is configured to receive a message indicating an excessive EOT acceleration and display an indication of the excessive acceleration to the operator and/or record the message in an event recorder and/or report the excessive acceleration to a device located off the train.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 24, 2009Publication date: August 26, 2010Applicant: QUANTUM ENGINEERING, INC.Inventors: Mark Edward Kane, James Brady
