The machine can read check indicia, send check data to the host, receive authorization from the host to cash the check, and dispense cash corresponding to the check. The machine can also produce image data representative of the check indicia and determine whether the data can be accurately identified within a predetermined level of assurance. The machine can additionally print cancellation data on a cashed check, and then return the check to the machine user.
