  • Patent number: 7629311
Abstract: A method for delivering a biologic to a human with Alzheimer's-related dementia, comprising administering the biologic parenterally into the perispinal space of the human without direct intrathecal injection, and thereafter positioning the human's head below the horizontal. The method further includes delivering a TNF antagonist to the brain of a human for treating mild cognitive impairment, Alzheimer's related dementia, or vascular dementia, comprising administering the TNF antagonist golimumab parenterally into the perispinal space of the human without direct intrathecal injection, and thereafter positioning the human in a Trendelenburg position, for delivery of the golimumab to the brain via the human's vertebral venous system.

  • Publication number: 20090130019
Abstract: This application concerns novel methods which enable or improve the ability of molecules, particularly large molecules, to cross the blood-brain barrier, the blood-eye barrier, and/or the blood-nerve barrier and therefore be of improved diagnostic and/or therapeutic use in humans and other mammals. These methods involve perispinal administration of imaging agents without direct intrathecal injection. Perispinal administration is defined as administration of the molecule into the anatomic area within 10 cm of the spine. Perispinal administration results in absorption of the imaging agent into the vertebral venous system.

  • Patent number: 7526544
Abstract: A message tracker having a transfer monitor, a set of registers, and at least one arithmetic unit increases performance and reliability when transmitting or receiving messages within a computer system. A set of message parameters such as a current address, a remaining length, and a communicated length are stored within the set of registers. The transfer monitor observes data transfers on a multi-tenant bus in order to detect data transfers related to the message and provide an update signal. The message parameters within the registers are updated in response to the update signal. The process of detecting and updating is repeated until the entire message is transferred, and the message tracker then informs a control processor or process that communication of the message has occurred. To facilitate message coalescing, several message trackers may share a message queue that is configured to store message parameters corresponding to completed messages.

  • Patent number: 7343560
Abstract: A method and system for imaging a workstation (or other device) and then associating that image with a specific device are disclosed. The present invention enables an administrator to take an image of a basic workstation (with minimum or no applications) and then when the image is downloaded to the workstation, the service may look into a Directory and download with the image the set of files associated with an Application Object that has been associated with the image in the Directory. Another embodiment of the present invention further provides a method and system for applying an image to a workstation that had never been imported into the tree. A rules-based system may be implemented to enable one or more workstations that are booting to find the image and have it applied.

  • Patent number: 7276634
Abstract: The present invention is an improvement upon the process for the production of 1,3-propanediol wherein an aqueous solution of 3-hydroxy propanal is formed, catalyst, if any, used in said formation is removed from the solution, sodium hydroxide is added to the solution to neutralize any acid therein such that the pH is at least about 5, the neutralized aqueous solution is subjected to hydrogenation to produce a crude 1,3-propanediol mixture which is distilled to produce 1,3-propanediol, water, and reactive heavy components. The improvement on this process comprises replacing the sodium hydroxide with a hydroxide selected from the group consisting of ammonium hydroxide, alkali metal hydroxides other than sodium hydroxide, and alkaline earth metal hydroxides to reduce the viscosity of the reactive heavy components.

  • Patent number: 7200661
Abstract: A system and method for registering a workstation. The system enables a client to locate an import service for importing workstation information using the domain name system (DNS). A client may send registration information to the import service after locating the import service using the DNS. The import service may then create a workstation object based on at least a portion of the registration information. The import service may then forward the workstation object to the client for registering the workstation.

  • Publication number: 20060293660
Abstract: A connector for a spinal alignment system includes a base, a hook, a guide aperture, and a locking portion. The base includes a channel extending therethrough to receive a fixation rod. The hook extends from the base. The guide aperture is adapted to receive a bone fastener and the locking portion is adapted to engage the bone fastener. The guide aperture extends through one of the base and the hook and the locking portion is located in the other of the base and the hook. The locking portion is coaxial with the guide aperture such that the guide aperture guides a shaft of the bone fastener into alignment with the locking portion when the bone fastener is received by the guide aperture. The bone fastener cooperates with the base and hook to form a tension band construct that resists opposing forces acting on the construct. A rod locking fastener engages the channel and the fixation rod to secure the fixation rod in the channel.

  • Publication number: 20060009450
Abstract: The present invention provides specific methods of using and administering etanercept to improve cognitive function in a human, for both the treatment and prevention of cognitive impairment, or, alternatively, to enhance cognitive function in three different broad categories of conditions: 4. Cognitive impairment which is characteristic of certain neurological disorders (for example Alzheimer's Disease, Idiopathic Dementia, and Traumatic Brain Injury); 5. Cognitive impairment which accompanies certain systemic or localized non-neurological conditions which are known or suspected to be associated with increased TNF (for example rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, and cancer cachexia); and 6. To enhance cognitive function in individuals in whom there is either no brain pathology or in whom the existence of brain pathology is either unknown or undefined, including a human without known disease.

  • Patent number: 6982089
Abstract: Methods for treating neurological or neuropsychiatric diseases or disorders in humans by administering to the human a therapeutically effective dose of specific biologics are presented. The biologics of consideration include antagonists of tumor necrosis factor or of interleukin-1. The administration of these biologics is performed by specific methods, most, but not all of which fall into the category of anatomically localized administration designed for perispinal use. Anatomically localized administration involving perispinal use includes, but is not limited to the subcutaneous, intramuscular, interspinous, epidural, peridural, parenteral or intrathecal routes. Additonally, intranasal administration is discussed as a method to provide therapeutic benefit.

  • Patent number: 6912669
Abstract: A method and apparatus for cache coherency in storage system is disclosed. The invention maintains cache coherency in the controller system of the storage system in a manner to minimize the performance degradation to a host system, and to allow the caches to be coherent without requiring data to be written to the backing disks. Each controller manages an area of memory on the partner controller, but the area is managed dynamically and is done with the information about the partner controller. A first controller determines which mirror cache line on a second controller to copy data into, and then mirrors the data from a first controller cache line to a second controller cache line. A message is sent from the first controller to the second controller informing the second controller of cache meta data associated with the mirror cache line so that the cache line may be added to the second controller's hash table.

  • Patent number: 6874420
Abstract: A system, method, and process that determine and automatically correct registration errors between printed objects and mechanically produced objects using advanced image processing techniques is disclosed. Means are also presented for maintaining all registered functions to within very close tolerances during normal running, with other means for rapidly obtaining initial registration with substantial savings in material waste. The disclosed system and method/process are compatible with the printing and converting industry in which rolls of material are processed by printing a number of colors that require close registration especially in pictorial representation. These roll-fed printing machines are quite versatile and in addition to the printing of any number of colors on both front and back can perform any number of additional operations on the printed web at the same time.
