  • Publication number: 20120244341
Abstract: An apparatus and methods for controlling the location and distribution of loose ceramic particles in a ceramic metal composite component formed via casting. A retaining structure that may include loose ceramic particles is placed in a casting mold at a desired location for ceramic particles in the composite component prior to pouring molten metal into the casting mold. Alternatively, the loose ceramic particles may be introduced into the mold concurrently with the molten metal.

  • Publication number: 20120244344
Abstract: Methods and processes are described that form ceramic wear surfaces on the outer surface of a cast part. A mold having a mold cavity is provided. The mold cavity may be washed using a refractory wash to provide for a smoother finish to the surface of the cast part and to maintain mold integrity. An adhesive is applied to predetermined locations in which increased wear during the use of the cast parts is anticipated to occur. Ceramic material may be applied to the predetermined locations by various means. A mask may be used to remove excess material from areas other than the predetermined locations. A molten metal is poured into the mold cavity and allowed to cool to form a cast part with a ceramic wear surface.

  • Patent number: 8191545
Abstract: The present invention describes electroformed thin-wall nickel core drills that are impregnated with diamond abrasives. The thin-wall core drills are formed with a plurality of raised portions and an equal plurality of recessed portions, with each raised portion alternating with a recessed portion, the raised and recessed portions are substantially parallel and are connected by transition portions. In another embodiment, some of the transition regions are formed with intermediate steps or partially raised and recessed portions. These intermediate steps or partially raised or recessed portions allow more uniform distribution of matrix material across a kerf width D1 as the core drill is spun, thereby, giving the cut edge a substantially square profile.

  • Patent number: 8073994
Abstract: Asynchronous network interface and method of synchronisation between two applications on different computers is provided. The network interface contains snooping hardware which can be programmed to contain triggering values comprising either addresses, address ranges or other data which are to be matched. These data are termed “trip wires”. Once programmed, the interface monitors the data stream, including address data, passing through the interface for addresses and data which match the trip wires which have been set. On a match, the snooping hardware can generate interrupts, increment event counters, or perform some other application-specified action. This snooping hardware is preferably based upon Content-Addressable Memory. The invention thus provides in-band synchronisation by using synchronisation primitives which are programmable by user level applications, while still delivering high bandwidth and low latency.

Abstract: The present disclosure may include a method for repackaging data in a communications system. The method may include receiving low-power RF data at a wireless relay device from one or more low power wireless devices and translating the low-power RF data at the wireless relay device into one or more translated packets. The method may further include synchronizing the translated low-power RF data with one or more wireless links and transmitting the synchronized low-power RF data to a host device. The method may further include receiving wireless communications from a host device, translating the parsing the wireless packets, synchronizing the translated packets with one or more low-power RF connections, and transmitting the synchronized packets to one ore more low-power RF devices. The method may further include managing the network topology of the communications system via commands to the wireless relay device.
