  • Patent number: 7699787
Abstract: A blood pressure measurement apparatus for use in association with a blood pressure measuring cuff includes a housing having an upper shell and a lower shell defining an interior chamber and a replaceable module disposed within the interior chamber. The replaceable module houses a pump for inflating the blood pressure measuring cuff and a vent valve for venting the blood pressure measuring cuff. A cuff pressure sensor is provided within the interior chamber, either within or externally of the replaceable module. A control circuit for controlling the pump and the vent valve is provided on a circuit board disposed externally of the replaceable module. A power pack may be provided within the replaceable module for supplying electric power to the pump, the valve, the control circuit and other components within the interior chamber.

  • Patent number: 7457594
Abstract: A system for measuring output power from an antenna. A sensor receives a sample of wireless signals from the antenna and communicates data about the signal back to the transmitter in a manner such that the antenna pattern is undisturbed. An optical coupler, e.g., fiber optic, is used to send data from the sensor to the transmitter. Power for the sensor can be derived parasitically from the wireless signal or can be provided to the sensor optically.

  • Patent number: 7427267
Abstract: In blood pressure measurement of a vertebrate through use of an inflatable pressure cuff disposed about a limb of the vertebrate limb and inflated by pump driven by a motor, the air pressure within the cuff is determined at any given time during the inflation of the cuff by calculating the incremental change in pressure in the pressure cuff over a series of small time increments and summing the calculated incremental pressure changes from the initiation of cuff inflation to a desired point in time during the inflation of the pressure cuff. The incremental change in pressure within the cuff is calculated as a function of the incremental change in current drawn by the pump motor over the time increment.

  • Publication number: 20060004298
Abstract: A system for enabling a user to exert control with bioelectrical impulses via an input from the user includes a first electromyogram interface, a computer display and a computer. The first electromyogram interface to the user is in communication with a first source of bioelectrical impulses from the user. The computer display is capable of displaying a cursor. The computer is in communication with the electromyogram interface and the computer display, and is programmed to sense a first input from the first electromyogram interface, change a first computer control attribute in response to a state change sensed in the first input, and generate a preselected cursor action in response to a change in the first computer control attribute.

  • Publication number: 20050240514
Abstract: A method of characterizing relative risks associated with a plurality of financial products comprises the steps of identifying one or more risk classes associated with the products, determining for each risk class an expected occurrence rate, dividing the expected occurrence rates by an average rate to determine relative risk ratios, and comparing the relative risk ratios to characterize the relative risks associated with the products. In certain embodiments, one or more of the risk classes are associated with one or more criteria. The criteria may be modified and the method repeated to determine an impact of the modification on the relative risks associated with the products. The relative risk ratio may be used to redefine one or more of the risk classes. Certain embodiments may include the step of determining a separate relative risk ratio for subgroups of risks.

  • Patent number: 6751958
Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed to increase the pressure of a feed gas through chemical compression. A feed gas such as natural gas is introduced into a vessel and is adsorbed onto material contained therein. The vessel is heated, for example by the waste heat from a turbogenerator. The feed gas desorbs and is released from the vessel at an increased pressure. Multiple vessels may operate in cooperation to collectively provide a substantially continuous flow of feed gas at an increased pressure. An accumulator also may be provided to collect, cool and store the feed gas at the increased pressure.

  • Publication number: 20040045687
Abstract: Pulp fibers can be treated with water insoluble chemical additives resulting in a minimal amount of unretained water insoluble chemical additives present after exposing the treated pulp fibers to process water, liquids, or solutions used in products. One embodiment of the present invention is a method for preparing chemically treated pulp fiber. A fiber slurry is created comprising process water and pulp fibers. The fiber slurry is transported to a web-forming apparatus of a pulp sheet machine thereby forming a wet fibrous web. The wet fibrous web is dried to a predetermined consistency thereby forming a dried fibrous web. The dried fibrous web is treated with a water insoluble chemical additive thereby forming a chemically treated dried fibrous web containing chemically treated pulp fibers.
