[Solution] An information processing apparatus includes a display panel 101a, a touch panel 101b for detecting a finger moving on the display panel, and a control unit 103 for designating a predetermined moving direction Dd and determining an operation state of the apparatus based on a difference between the designated moving direction Dd and a moving direction Da of the finger moving on the display panel according to the designation. When the apparatus is operated with either hand, a difference due to a finger used for the operation easily occurs between the designated moving direction and the moving direction of the finger due to a structure of the hand.

Abstract: In an information providing system, a virtual three-dimensional space is established. Users of mobile communication terminals virtually move in the virtual space by manipulating an avatar representing the user and obtain advertisement information through electronic signboards. Users of information providing terminals place electronic signboards at appropriate positions in the virtual space and provide announcement information for the users of the mobile communication terminals. An information management server manages the announcement information provided by the information providing terminals and generates links each of which lead from advertisement information to other advertisement information. The information management server determines priorities for such links, based on use of advertisement information by the users of the mobile communication terminals. The information management server displays the links differently depending on the priorities.

Abstract: Systems and methods for operating an appliance control device for selectively controlling a plurality of appliances having a same or common identifier are provided. A control unit may receive a request to register the appliance control device with any of the plurality of appliances having the same identifier. In response to the request, the control unit may select a first appliance based on a registration priority of the first appliance relative to the remaining appliances. Upon selecting the first appliance, the control unit may transmit a request to the selected first appliance for registering the appliance control device with the selected first appliance. In some aspects, the relative registration priorities may be assigned to one or more of the appliances based on a prior registration history and/or distance to the appliance control device.

Abstract: Systems and methods for operating an appliance control device for controlling the operation of a variety of appliances are provided. The appliance control device may acquire a list identifying one or more functions executable by an appliance. The list may further identify a corresponding protocol corresponding to each function included in the list. The appliance control device may transmit a request to the appliance for execution of a desired function selected from the list using a specified protocol selected based on the corresponding protocol corresponding to the desired function. In turn, the appliance may transmit the list to the appliance control device upon request. Further, the appliance may also receive the request to execute the desired function in accordance with the selected specified protocol, and execute the desired function in response to the request.
