Abstract: A process for forming a footed plastic container, comprising the steps of providing a preform having a neck portion with an open top end, an elongated cylindrical body portion with inner and outer walls and a lower end, wherein the lower end includes a plurality of thickened portions; providing a blow mold in the shape of a footed container having an elongated sidewall, wherein the blow mold includes a plurality of separate container foot forming cavities; inserting the preform into the blow mold; placing each of the thickened portions in a predetermined position relative to the foot forming cavities; and stretch blow molding the preform, and displacing material from each of the thickened portions into one of the foot forming cavities to form the plastic container.

Abstract: A process for preparing a thermoplastic container including the steps of providing a biaxially oriented, crystallized precontainer having a first contained volume, and further crystallizing the precontainer by applying heat thereto while the precontainer is substantially unconstrained, and forming a deformed precontainer having a second contained volume. Deformation of the precontainer is controlled by controllably closing the precontainer prior to further crystallizing and while the precontainer remains substantially unconstrained to create a predetermined increased air pressure therein, and reshaping the deformed precontainer into a final container shape.

Abstract: A container closure assembly and method for providing same. The container has an access opening and a container rim surrounding the access opening. A plastic cap covers the access opening and includes an upper portion, a skirt depending from the upper portion and circumferentially covering the container rim, and a tamper ring depending from said skirt, wherein the tamper ring is preferably connected to the skirt by a plurality of tabs separated by open portions, whereby the tamper ring is disengaged from the skirt by twisting the cap and breaking the tabs. The tabs comprise a crystallized, brittle portion, whereby breaking the tabs is facilitated.

Abstract: A container and closure assembly includes a container including a bottom portion and an encircling wall extending therefrom and defining a body portion. The body portion has an open end with a span equal to or different than the span of the body portion. The assembly also includes a removable cap liner including a seal for sealably engaging the container at its open end in a manner which traps fluids in the container and a removable cap which substantially covers the cap liner and thereby the open end of the container. The cap is adapted for reclosing the container after it is removed from the container.

Abstract: A device and process for hydrostatic forming is disclosed. The device for hydrostatically forming an article comprises an expandable bladder for shaping the article; a fluid for expanding the bladder; and a device for moving the fluid into the bladder for expanding the same. The fluid is heated prior to being moved into the bladder for raising the temperature of the article and lowering the yield strength of the article, thereby increasing the formability of the article.

Abstract: A process for producing a container and closure assembly includes molding a preliminary container including a closed bottom portion, a body portion and a shoulder and neck portion. The shoulder and neck portion is separated from the body portion. An open ended second container is formed from the body portion, the second container having a rim at its open end and an encircling wall. The open end of the second container is then closed with a closure comprised of a cap and a cap liner. The cap liner has a weakened portion adapted to be broken by the cap. The cap or the cap liner are formed from the shoulder and neck portion of the preliminary container.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a multilayered hollow plastic article having an inner first portion of thermoplastic material and an outer second portion of pressure molded thermoplastic material. The second portion of thermoplastic material extends from the closed bottom of the article to the open neck of the article, and the first portion of thermoplastic material extends from the closed bottom to below the neck region of the article. The present invention also relates to the method for preparing said article.

Abstract: A blow molded plastic container including a supporting member in the hollow space of the container extending completely across the hollow space and integral with the inside wall face of the body portion of the container at two spaced locations thereof to support the inside wall face. The body portion defines regions that comprise at least two adjoining lobes which form a handgrip. The method injection molds a preform containing an inner wall, blow molds the preform into the shape of a precursor having adjoining lobes separated by depressions, removes the precursor from the blow mold, and applies internal pressure into the precursor to form the precursor into its final shape including lobes.

Abstract: The process selectively crystallizes a molecularly oriented thermoplastic container composed of portions thereof with different degrees of orientation. Portions of the container are heat treated at temperatures suitable to crystallize said portions according to the degrees of orientation thereof wherein the heat treatment takes place in a heating environment on an unconfined container. The selectively crystallized container is then sized in a finishing means.

Abstract: A color coated article is formed by applying a color coated material to an injection mold having mold halves, a mold cavity edge and a mold cavity therein for the formation of an injection molded article, and injecting molten plastic into the mold cavity to form a laminated article with the color coated material bonded to the injected plastic. The process uses a color coated blank cut from a web and transfers the blank into registry with at least one of the mold halves.
