  • Patent number: 8972814
Abstract: A system and method for permuting known and unknown message bits before encoding to provide a beneficial rearrangement of bits. Such a method can improve distance properties in the resulting subcode. In various embodiments, the structure of a beneficial rearrangement is dependent on the parameters of how known and unknown bits are grouped and on the specific type of code being used. Given these two parameters, the message bits can be rearranged to more efficiently leverage any apriori knowledge.

  • Patent number: 8953474
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide systems and methods for improving user equipment performance in up-link transmission by implementing antenna selection based on channel measurements in the down-link. In various embodiments, first and second antennas are used to receive signals on a downlink and to transmit signals on an uplink. A plurality of signals received on the downlink are used to generate a plurality of antenna parameter measurements derived from multiple correlations of a known reference sequence of data signals transmitted on the downlink. The plurality of antenna parameter measurements is then used to select either the first antenna or the second antenna or a combination of both through splitting of the signal for transmitting data signals by said user equipment device on the uplink.

  • Publication number: 20150038074
Abstract: A system and method may dynamically (a) adjust signal characteristics of individual portions of a Near Field Communication (“NFC”) transmission, and/or (b) change NFC wireless communication channels. A transmitting device may transmit to a receiving device via multiple NFC channels. For instance, a transmitting device may have multiple spatially-separated antennas and/or transmitters, and a transmission required to complete a financial transaction (or other wireless communication) with a receiving device may have several portions. Each transmission portion may be sequentially and/or individually transmitted from the transmitting device to the receiving device using a different antenna and/or transmitter, i.e., a different communication channel.

  • Publication number: 20140287698
Abstract: Devices and methods are disclosed for real-time calibration of a tunable matching network that matches the dynamic impedance of an antenna in a receiver. Processing logic is operable to solve multiple non-linear equations to determine the reflection coefficient of the antenna. The tunable matching network is repeatedly perturbed and the power received by the antenna is measured after each perturbation at the same node in the matching network. The measured power values are used by an optimizer in converging to a solution that provides the reflection coefficient of the antenna. The reflection coefficient of the antenna may be used to determine the input impedance of the antenna. The elements of the matching circuit may then be adjusted to match the input impedance of the antenna.

  • Patent number: 8797954
Abstract: Methods and devices are disclosed for efficient signaling of discontinuous transmission in a wireless communication system. In various aspects of the disclosure, a user equipment device monitors transmissions on a plurality of physical downlink control channels (PDCCHs) and, in response to said transmissions, generates an acknowledge/negative acknowledge (ACK/NACK) signal comprising a plurality of bits, wherein the plurality of bits includes a discontinuous transmission (DTX) indicator bit. In some embodiments, the indicator bit corresponds to an even or odd number of PDCCHs successfully decoded. In other embodiments, the indicator bit corresponds to an odd or even number of component carriers comprising “TRUE” NACKs.

  • Patent number: 8782502
Abstract: Methods and devices are disclosed for encoding and decoding convolutional codes in a communication system. In various embodiments of the disclosure, a codeword comprises message data and parity data. A convolutional codeword is generated by multiplying the message data and the parity data with a convolutional polynomial. The convolutional codeword may be decoded by a convolutional code decoder that uses the convolutional polynomial and a maximum likelihood divisor to obtain a maximum likelihood message from the convolutional codeword.
