  • Patent number: 6678728
Abstract: A method and apparatus for automatically loading device status information into a network device. One embodiment comprises an apparatus in a network device, wherein the network device enters a sleep state under particular conditions. In one embodiment, the apparatus is for communicating with other devices on the network and comprises control circuitry that controls communication between the network device and the other devices on the network. The apparatus further comprises a memory device that stores configuration data for the control circuitry, wherein at least a portion of the configuration data is loaded into the control circuitry upon initialization of the network device. The apparatus further comprises a buffer that stores keep-alive data that is transmitted to a plurality of the other devices in the network to refresh the presence of the network device in the network, wherein the keep-alive data is loaded into the buffer from the memory device upon initialization of the network device.

  • Publication number: 20030205375
Abstract: The treatment well tiltmeter system comprises one or more tiltmeter assemblies which are located within an active treatment well. The treatment well tiltmeter system provides data from the downhole tiltmeters, and can be used to map hydraulic fracture growth or other subsurface processes from the collected downhole tilt data versus time. The system provides tilt data inversion of data from each of the treatment well tiltmeter assemblies, and provides isolation of data signals from noise associated with the treatment well environment. As well, the treatment well tiltmeter system provides geomechanical modeling for treatment well processes.

  • Patent number: 6609578
Abstract: A water-base fluid for use in drilling wells and other drilling operation includes a shale which swells in the presence of water. The fluid preferably includes: an aqueous based continuous phase, and a shale hydration inhibition agent having the formula: H2N—R—{OR′}x—Y in which R and R′ are alkylene groups having 1 to 6 carbon atoms and x is a value from about 1 to about 25. The Y group should be an amine or alkoxy group, preferably a primary amine or a methoxy group. The shale hydration inhibition agent should be present in sufficient concentration to reduce the swelling of the shale. The fluid may be used for formulating drilling fluids such as invert emulsion drilling muds or clear brine drilling fluids. The fluid may also be used in the slurrification and disposal of drill cuttings that contain water swellable clays or shales.

  • Patent number: 6553441
Abstract: A serial bus with pre-defined protocol may be used on the NIC to provide PC management functions. While these functions may be used with the PC powered up, they may further perform valuable tasks while the PC is powered down. With these new added functions, centralized control may be achieved which will lower the administrative cost and serve better for distributed computing.

  • Publication number: 20030051845
Abstract: Apparatus for producing a molded pulp product from a fiber slurry comprising a dip tank containing a fiber slurry therein and having a liquid level. A platen is provided. A porous mold is carried by the platen. The platen and the mold carried thereby are lowered into the fiber slurry in a downward direction with the platen being disposed upwardly of the mold so that the mold is introduced through the liquid level into the fiber slurry. A vacuum is supplied to the platen and to the mold while the mold is disposed in the fiber slurry to cause fibers in the fiber slurry to collect onto the mold and form a wet molded pulp product. The platen and the mold with the wet molded product thereon are moved out of the fiber slurry through the liquid level to permit water to drain from the mold and the wet molded pulp product. The wet molded pulp product is then dried.

  • Patent number: 6513128
Abstract: The present invention allows NIC resources to be accessed through auxiliary power and an ASIC clock while the PC is powered down and while PCI power and the PCI clock are not available. The present invention also provides an alternate path for accessing the NIC registers, downloading keep-alive and alert-on-LAN packets to the transmit packet buffer (TPB), as well as uploading received packets from the receive packet buffer (RPB). The present invention also allows monitoring PCI activity and seamlessly servicing the PCI configuration cycle (when PCI power and the PCI clock are restored) in conjunction with responding to the access through the alternate path (while PCI power and the PCI clock are not available).

  • Patent number: 5119769
Abstract: In a two cycle internal combustion engine (80) comprising three cylinders (22, 24, 26) vertically in-line, a single intake manifold (82) services all three of the cylinders, and a single fuel delivery device (84), such as a carburetor, on the manifold delivers fuel to each of the cylinders. Location and orientation of the three reed block openings (90, 92, 94) relative to each other and relative to the throttle bore (128) provide desired fuel distribution. Manifold structure, including internal dams (142, 146) and a deflector plate (138), prevents an overly rich fuel mixture in the lower cylinder (26) at idle, and prevents an overly rich fuel mixture in the upper cylinder (22) at running speeds above idle.
