Publication number: 20170024661Abstract: A method for implementing spiking neural network computations, the method including defining a dynamic node response function that exhibits spikes, where spikes are temporal nonlinearities for representing state over time; defining a static representation of said node response function; and using the static representation of the node response function to train a neural network. A system for implementing the method is also disclosed.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 23, 2015Publication date: January 26, 2017Inventors: Eric Gordon HUNSBERGER, Christopher David ELIASMITH

Publication number: 20160130991Abstract: A method of precision manufacture of an outer arm of a rocker arm assembly is performed by determining structures of a rough outer arm that would require precision processing and locations to support the structures as they are processed. Starting with at least one structure requiring precision processing, locations on the outer arm close to the structure to hold the outer arm during processing are determined that would cause minimal distortion of the outer arm during processing. The outer arm is then provided with clamping lobes at these locations. The clamping lobes of the outer arm are clamping into a fixture for manufacturing. The slider pad may now be precision ground while the outer arm is clamped in the fixture with minimal risk of distortion of the outer arm.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 16, 2015Publication date: May 12, 2016Inventors: Austin Robert Zurface, Tony Eric Gordon, Andrei Dan Radulescu, Otto Jerome Schultheis

Publication number: 20160061067Abstract: A durable system for controlling variable valve actuation of an engine valve corresponding to a cylinder of an automobile engine. The system includes first and second crowned cams having first and second lift profiles and a rocker arm assembly. The rocker assembly includes a first arm having an end connected to said engine valve, having a high impact roller following the first crowned cam operating the engine valves according to a first lift profile. The rocker arm assembly also includes a second arm having durable slider pads riding on the second crowned cam to operate said engine valve according to a second lift profile. A latch secures the second arm relative to the first arm when in a latched position causing the valve to operate according to a second lift profile. The valve operates according to a first lift profile when the latch is not in the latched position.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 22, 2015Publication date: March 3, 2016Inventors: Otto Jerome Schultheis, Tony Eric Gordon, Mark Joseph Birler, Philip Michael Kline

Patent number: 7685570Abstract: An error/exception helper may provide tailored help when an error such as an exception is generated. A source program editor interface may be displayed and/or focus given to the program editor interface. An error/exception bubble or tool tip may be displayed, which, in one embodiment of the invention, points to the line of code that generated the exception. The error/exception bubble may include a link to a help topic or the actual help text may be displayed within the bubble. The bubble may also include one or more actions that may be taken to correct the error or a link to a procedure to perform the action(s). Patent number: 7450623Abstract: An integrated light emitting semiconductor device having integrated feedback for wavelength locking comprises a semiconductor substrate including a waveguide region having a gain section having a gain media therein, and an out-coupling perturbation integrated with the device disposed proximate to the waveguide. A total internal reflection (TIR) structure for providing optical feedback is integrated with the device and disposed in a spaced apart relation relative to the out-coupling perturbation. At least one of the out-coupling perturbation and the TIR structure include a grating or prism to provide dispersion to send different wavelengths of light in different directions. The out-coupling perturbation is preferably a grating that has a grating period that is small enough to allow for only the +1 diffracted order to propagate.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 2005Date of Patent: November 11, 2008Inventors: Jason Kirk O'Daniel, Eric Gordon Johnson, Oleg Smolski

Patent number: 7345841Abstract: A magnetic recording disk drive has a disturbance sensor and a disturbance frequency identifier that are used to adjust the frequency of a peak filter as the disturbance frequency changes. The sensor and the frequency identifier are separate from the servo control loop and thus do not rely on the head position error signal (PES) to predict the disturbance frequency. The adjustable peak filter is coupled in parallel with the servo feedback controller. The peak filter modifies the open loop transfer function and the error rejection function of the servo control loop to provide a higher rejection at the identified frequency. The peak filter may be switched out of or uncoupled from the servo feedback controller during track-seeking or as desired, depending on the amplitude of the sensor signal or the amplitude of the PES.Type: GrantFiled: February 7, 2006Date of Patent: March 18, 2008Assignee: Hitachi Global Storage Technologies Netherlands B.V.Inventors: Eric Gordon Baugh, Tetsuo Semba, Matthew T. White

Patent number: 7113920Abstract: An intranet based comprehensive ordering system that allows authorized employees to simultaneously search many different vendor's catalogs that are stored in a server on a company's intranet. The present Electronic Stockroom and Catalog (ESAC) allows vendors to download their catalogs to the system for storage, browsing and possible purchase by authorized employees. ESAC also allows vendors to update catalogs that may already be in the system. ESAC stores the catalogs and provides the employee with the ability to easily search all of the vendors catalogs for desired items. Thus, employees have access to a wide variety of items. The present system is an attempt at providing the company with one-stop-shopping for every item that every employee will ever need in the course of their employment. If the desired item is available on-site i.e., in one of the stockrooms of the company, then ESAC informs the employee and provides location information relating to the desired item.Type: GrantFiled: October 16, 2000Date of Patent: September 26, 2006Assignee: Jefferson Science Associates, LLCInventors: William Russell Brisiel, Eric Gordon Cooper, Mark Edward Davis

Patent number: 7106889Abstract: An image analysis system for automated reading of printed multi-character codes, for example on antibiotic susceptibility testing disks, makes use of an orientation means, for example an underline printed beneath the code, to bring the code or its image into canonical alignment with an optimum reading direction for the code. Automated reading of the codes on randomly-orientated AST disks is therefore possible.Type: GrantFiled: July 1, 1998Date of Patent: September 12, 2006Assignee: Oxoid LimitedInventors: Eric Gordon Mahers, Stephen Cyril Joyce, Shail Patel, Derwent Swaine, Roger Fowler
