  • Patent number: 12085050
Abstract: An internal combustion engine system is described herein. The system uses a switching rail in combination with a first fuel rail to operate the internal combustion engine of the system. The first fuel rail receives the first fuel for combustion within one or more of the combustion cylinders of the internal combustion engine. The switching rails are configured to receive either the first fuel or a second fuel. A controller is used to operate a switching valve that, depending on the position of the switching valve, routes or directs either the second fuel or the first fuel from their respective fuel tanks. In a switching condition, such as startup, shutdown, or when the second fuel is not available, the controller can use the first fuel as the alternate source of fuel provided through the switching rail.

  • Publication number: 20240294442
Abstract: Hydrolysis of water-reactive nanoporous nonprecious metals to produce hydrogen fuel on-demand for non-stationary applications is a promising method to overcome infrastructural limitations associated with current hydrogen storage and delivery systems. However, the pyrophoricity of highly reactive nanoporous nonprecious metals presents a safety and stability issue. Herein we demonstrate a method to stabilize pyrophoric nanoporous nonprecious metals by using a composite pellet structure consisting of a nanoporous nonprecious metal and a highly hygroscopic material that (i) can trap and absorb high quantities of water vapor to prevent heat buildup and subsequent pyrophoric ignition from exothermic oxidation from oxygen, and (ii) can also undergo hydrolysis to produce hydrogen, thus, making it possible to suppress the pyrophoricity without sacrificing the overall hydrogen generation yield of the composite.

  • Publication number: 20240295942
Abstract: Disclosed is an operating system (OS) discovery mode that identifies and provides access to OS and/or third-party provided features within an applicable region of a desktop. In some configurations, once the discovery mode is activated, the content displayed by the applicable region is analyzed to identify content usable by OS and/or third-party provided features. Visual cues are rendered in the applicable region near the identified content, highlighting the availability of the OS and/or third-party provided features. Users may interact with the visual cues to manipulate the underlying content or to invoke the OS and/or third-party provided features. OS and/or third-party provided features may modify content displayed by an application, launch an inline micro-experience, crop or export images, etc. While in the discovery mode, visual cues are highlighted as a discovery mouse cursor moves around the desktop.
