  • Publication number: 20030115545
Abstract: A graphical user interface (GUI) is provided for use in conjunction with attribute evaluation utilizing computation rules and a combining policy. The graphical user interface displays a visual representation of the evaluation of attributes. The GUI displays a representation of the evaluation status of attributes and their associated computation rules during execution. The display may be updated dynamically to provide a user with a visual representation of the progression of attribute evaluation. The representation of evaluation status may include representations of the values assigned to, as well as the state of, data items and associated computation rules. States may be visually represented in the display in various ways, such as using various colors or labels associated with the data items and associated computation rules. Further, the particular data items and computation rules for which evaluation status is represented may be user selectable.

  • Publication number: 20020198458
Abstract: An apparatus for monitoring fluid pressure includes a reusable base section, and a disposable dome section detachably connected to the base section. The disposable dome section defines a fluid pathway and includes a dome viewing segment in fluid communication with a flush segment and a stopcock segment. A pressure transducer sensor is disposed in the reusable base section and is adapted to produce electrical signals proportional to fluid pressures sensed in the fluid pathway. A usage indicator can be disposed in the base section to provide a visual indication of usage of the apparatus within a predetermined number of uses. A calibration port can be provided in the base section to allow for simple calibration by the user without violating the sterility of the apparatus. The ability to reuse the base section with the sensor component reduces the cost of the apparatus, while the disposability of the dome section with the fluid pathway ensures sterility for each use.

  • Patent number: 6499023
Abstract: An object-focused workflow system for processing a received object in accordance with a declarative workflow specification. The specification includes modules and attributes, where module execution results in the evaluation of attributes, and may include the initiation of a side-effect action performed by an external component. Whether modules are to be executed for a particular received object is determined by associated enabling conditions. Attributes may be evaluated in accordance with computation rules and a combining policy, where the computation rules specify how values are to be contributed to an attribute, and the combining policy indicates how those contributed values are combined in order to assign a value to the attribute. Tasks in the workflow system may be executed eagerly in order to improve the performance of the workflow system.

  • Patent number: 5991338
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for pinpointing an interruption in a link for transmitting digital signals between a first station and a second station on the basis of the times of occurrence of signal changes on the link. In accordance with the invention, the method is characterised by generating signal changes after the link has been restored. Preferably, the time of restoration is determined on the basis of data signals received, and a detection signal is fed to the link after the determination of the time of restoration. On the basis of the difference in time of observing restoration and of receiving a detection signal, the location of the interruption is determined. For this purpose, the length of the link need not be known.

  • Patent number: 5774467
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and device for converting data packets by coding or compression, source data packets being converted into transmission data packets. In order to achieve an optimal degree of filling of the transmission data packets, a data field of a transmission data packet according to the invention comprises only data of one logical channel. To this end, the compressed data of the logical channels are separately buffered in preferably parallel buffers. Reconstruction information is not incorporated in the data fields of the transmission data packets but, if necessary, is transmitted in advance. The invention is applied, in particular, in X.25 networks.

  • Patent number: 5721747
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for transmitting data in a processed manner on a communication channel, in which a first series (1) of data is converted into a second series (2) of data by means of a first operation (P), the second series (2) of data is transmitted on the communication channel and the second series of data is then converted into a third series (3) of data by means of a second operation (P.sup.-1). Check data (4) are formed on the basis of the first series (1) and are added to the second series (2). Subsequently, the integrity of the third series (3) is checked using the check data (4). The operations may comprise, respectively, data compression and data decompression. The check data are subjected to a protection operation (S) before they are added to the second series. Preferably, the method takes place at layer 3 of the so-called OSI model. The invention furthermore provides devices for using the method.

  • Patent number: 5642994
Abstract: A fluid storage and dispensing container for cleaning teeth, which includes a modified prophy angle headpiece that attaches to existing hand-held prophy cup dental instrument handpieces. The headpiece has an integrated passage through the headpiece by which a fluid is dispensed from the fluid container to the rotatable prophy cup. The headpiece has a lumen through the angle that won't tear or close under flow pressure. The headpiece has a shelf on a top surface for guiding placement of the fluid container, and a snap-fit retaining clip at a base of the headpiece for securing a plurality of different fluid containers. A preferred embodiment of a fluid storage container is a flexible tube that is depressed by a finger or thumb to dispense a fluid such as prophylactic paste or a polishing lubricant to the prophy cup.

  • Patent number: 4196016
Abstract: A method of salt grinding pigments wherein the material to be ground is milled with an inorganic salt, an organic conditioner, and larger particles such as balls or nails for comminuting the pigment to the desired state of subdivision and is subsequently recovered from the ground mass wherein the mass is treated after grinding with an organic liquid which is a solvent for the organic conditioner but which is inert to the pigment and to the inorganic grinding aid. The dispersion resulting is then centrifuged to remove solids constituting over-size pigment and inorganic grinding aid without separating the dispersed pigment particles of desired state of subdivision. The sediment is removed from the liquid dispersion of pigments and the liquid is subsequently separated from the dispersed pigment as by filtering or other appropriate means.
