Abstract: A process for preparing a xylene which is fluorinated and chlorinated in the side chain, having the formula ##STR1## wherein X represents hydrogen or fluorine andY represents hydrogen or chlorine andR.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are identical or different and represent hydrogen, halogen, a trifluoromethyl or trichloromethyl group or an aliphatic or aromatic radical andR.sup.1 and R.sup.2 can be bonded via hydrocarbon members to form an aromatic ring,By contacting a compound of the formula ##STR2## wherein X, R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 have the above-mentioned meanings, WITH A COMPOUND OF THE FORMULA ##STR3## wherein X, R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 have the above-mentioned meanings, in the presence of a halogen transfer catalyst at elevated temperature.

Abstract: A 2-acylamino-2'-carboxy-diphenylmethane is treated with an acid condensing agent such as sulfuric acid or chlorosulfonic acid thereby to produce the corresponding 4-acylamino-anthrone which can then be oxidized, as with hydrogen peroxide or oxygen, to the corresponding 1-acylamino-anthraquinone.

Abstract: The invention relates to the transfer printing hydrophobic fibre materials using paper supports which are printed with azo dyestuffs of the formula ##STR1## wherein X.sub.1 and X.sub.2 represent hydrogen or alkyl or cycloalkyl radicals andn represents 1-3, and wherein the benzene ring A can contain non-ionic substituents and the benzene ring B can contain customary non-polar substituents.

Abstract: 2-Chloromethylphenylcarbamic acid fluoride is prepared by reacting 2-chloromethylphenylisocyanate with anhydrous hydrofluoric acid. The product prepared can be reacted further with anhydrous hydrofluoric acid under pressure to prepare 2-aminodiphenylmethane-2'-carboxylic acid lactam.

Abstract: Reactive dyestuffs of the formula ##STR1## in which D is the residue of an organic dyestuff, R is hydrogen or a lower alkyl, R.sub.1 is hydrogen or a substituent, R.sub.2 is hydrogen, halogen, substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, alkenyl, aralkyl or aryl radical, carboxylic acid ester radical, carboxylic acid amide radical, alkylsulphone, or arylsulphone; and F is fluoro; and process for the preparation of such dyestuffs. These dyestuffs are particularly useful in dyeing materials containing hydroxyl groups and nitrogen, e.g. regenerated cellulose, wool, silk, synthetic polyamide, and polyurethane which dyeings possess excellent fastness to wet processing and good fastness to washing, milling and potting on wool.

Abstract: 3-Aminoindazoles bearing a carbo(lower alkoxy), lower alkylamide or di(lower alkyl)amide group in the 1-or 2-position and further being optionally substituted in one or more of the 4-, 5-, 6- and/or 7-positions are analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic agents. The compounds, of which 3-amino-6-chloroindazole-1-carboxylic acid ethyl ester is a typical embodiment, are prepared through treatment of the appropriate 3-aminoindazole with a derivative of carbonic acid or through thermal isomerization.

Abstract: Reactive dyestuffs of the formula ##STR1## in which D is the radical of an organic dyestuff, e.g. an azo dyestuff; R is hydrogen or lower alkyl; O is a bridge member, e.g. --SO.sub.2 --; n is the number 0 or 1; R.sub.1 is hydrogen or a substituent; R.sub.2 is hydrogen, optionaly substituted alkyl, alkenyl, aralkyl or aryl; and F is fluoro; are disclosed. These dyestuffs are suitable for dyeing textile materials containing hydroxyl groups or nitrogen, e.g. cellulose and wool. The dyeings have excellent fastness properties especially wet processing fastness.

Abstract: A process for preparing 1-aminoanthraquinone, comprising the steps of:A. reacting o-chloromethylphenylisocyanate with at least an equivalent amount of benzene in anhydrous hydrofluoric acid at a temperature of about -10.degree. to 200.degree. C to form the lactam of 2-amino-diphenylmethane-2'-carboxylic acid,B. saponifying the lactam of 2-amino-diphenylmethane-2'-carboxylic acid with aqueous alkali at a temperature above about 100.degree. C to form the 2-amino-diphenylmethane-2'-carboxylic acid,C. contacting the 2-amino-diphenylmethane-2'-carboxylic acid with an acid condensation agent, thereby to convert the carboxylic acid to 4-amino-anthrone, andD. contacting the 4-aminoanthrone with an oxidizing agent in an acid or alkaline medium, thereby to convert the aminoanthrone to 1-aminoanthraquinone. Special conditions are also recited for carrying out the individual steps to obtain high yields.

Abstract: In the saponification of 1-acetamino-anthraquinone to produce the corresponding 1-amino-anthraquinone, the improvement which comprises effecting the saponification with aqueous alkali such as a hydroxide, oxide or carbonate of an alkali metal or an oxide or hydroxide of an alkaline earth metal. The saponification is effected in water, which may contain an organic solvent such as alcohol.

Abstract: Benzoic acid amides characterized by the presence of a nitro, cyano, trifluoromethyl, alkylsulfonyl, carboxy, carbalkoxy, amido or sulfonamido substituent in the phenyl ring and by the presence of a heterocyclic group connected to the amide nitrogen atom through a hydrocarbon chain are antibacterial agents and in particular antituberculosis agents. The compounds, of which N-(pyrid-2-yl-methyl)3,5-dinitrobenzoic acid amide is a typical embodiment, are prepared by the reaction of an appropriately substituted benzoic acid, or derivative thereof, with an appropriate amine.

Abstract: N-(trifluoromethylmercapto-phenyl)-N'-alkyl and -N',N'-dialkyl ureas which possess herbicidal properties, and which may be produced by conventional methods.
