Publication number: 20210278835Abstract: The disclosure is generally directed to remotely-controlled automated vehicle parking operations. A driver of a vehicle stands on a curb and launches a software application on a handheld device. The software application uses a camera of the handheld device to capture images of the vehicle that can be observed by the driver. The software application then attempts to obtain a visual lock between the camera and the vehicle. In some cases, obtaining the visual lock may be hampered due to adverse lighting conditions. Light may be transmitted from the handheld device to illuminate the vehicle for better image capture. Alternatively, a command can be transmitted from the handheld device to a controller in the vehicle for turning on a light in the vehicle. After obtaining visual lock, various techniques such as vehicle path prediction and interpolation, can be used for effectively tracking the vehicle.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 4, 2020Publication date: September 9, 2021Applicant: Ford Global Technologies, LLCInventors: Erick Michael Lavoie, Lawrence Chikeziri Amadi, Hemanth Yadav Aradhyula, John Robert Van Wiemeersch

Publication number: 20210229509Abstract: A Remote Trailer Maneuvering (RTM) system includes a mobile device app that identifies and processes environmental information from a photo, to identify obstacles such as walls, surrounding objects, etc. When the RTM system detects a boat, a trailer, and a boat ramp, it calculates a travel distance to drive the trailer into the water for unloading the boat. The RTM system identifies obstructions, outputs information and warnings, and prompts for information and user control feedback. Once the photo is processed, the RTM system sends control instructions to an RTM controller onboard the vehicle. The vehicle may send a responsive message to the mobile device indicating that the RTM system is ready to proceed with the maneuvering function. The RTM controller maneuvers the trailer, using an autonomous vehicle controller, to the target position using the control instructions.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 24, 2020Publication date: July 29, 2021Applicant: Ford Global Technologies, LLCInventors: Seyed Armin Raeis Hosseiny, Erick Michael Lavoie, Siyuan Ma, Bo Bao

Publication number: 20210229655Abstract: The disclosure is generally directed to systems and methods for executing an automated vehicle maneuvering operation. In one exemplary scenario, a driver stands on a curb and uses an application in a handheld device to execute a remote parking assist operation of his/her vehicle. The application may use a camera of the handheld device to provide to the driver, an image of a group of vehicles that includes his/her vehicle. The driver identifies his/her vehicle by dragging and dropping an icon upon the vehicle. The application then pairs the handheld device to the vehicle by instructing the vehicle to provide an audible and/or visual signal (beeps, flashing lights, etc.) to confirm the pairing. Upon pairing, a visual lock that is established by the application between the handheld device and the vehicle is used by the driver to automatically track and monitor the automated parking operation carried out by the vehicle.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 28, 2020Publication date: July 29, 2021Applicant: Ford Global Technologies, LLCInventors: Lawrence Chikeziri Amadi, Erick Michael Lavoie, John Robert Van Wiemeersch

Patent number: 11059511Abstract: A vehicle is able to be set to operate in a factory mode (as opposed to a normal mode) in which certain features are disabled, such as an alarm system, a power liftgate, etc. This allows assembly workers to assemble, test, and calibrate the vehicle without various systems in the vehicle being undesirably activated. While in the factory mode, the vehicle can accomplish multiple ignition on/off cycles while being tested or driven between stations. A steering column and connected steering wheel are provided in the vehicle, and are situated between an instrument panel and a front seat. In response to the ignition completing an on/off cycle, a controller commands a motor to move the steering wheel and steering column to a predetermined position that is based on a visibility of the instrument panel relative to the steering wheel and steering column.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 2017Date of Patent: July 13, 2021Assignee: Ford Motor CompanyInventors: John Steven McWilliams, Kevin Stanton Giaier, Fernando Cruz Solis, Amol Bhaskar Kurkute, Madhuri Narvekar, Erick Michael Lavoie, Ronald Patrick Brombach
