    Abstract: Methods and devices for altering the power of a lens, such as an intraocular lens, are disclosed. In one method, the lens comprises a single polymer matrix containing crosslinkable pendant groups, wherein the polymer matrix increases in volume when crosslinked. The lens does not contain free monomer. Upon exposure to ultraviolet radiation, crosslinking causes the exposed portion of the lens to increase in volume, causing an increase in the refractive index. In another method, the lens comprises a polymer matrix containing photobleachable chromophores. Upon exposure to ultraviolet radiation, photobleaching causes a decrease in refractive index in the exposed portion without any change in lens thickness. These methods avoid the need to wait for diffusion to occur to change the lens shape and avoid the need for a second exposure to radiation to lock in the changes to the lens.

In this method and system, doctor and patient's respective contexts is inferred from the oral communication. Then, a desired impact of a recipient to a written communication related to the oral communication is inferred. Once the desired impact is inferred, the system generates output text using an artificial intelligence system, or by accessing a database of a plurality of stock phrases, to have appropriate surface text, and subtext, and optionally appropriate tone. The output text can be selected as a function of inferred diagnostic information, the inferred doctor and recipient's respective contexts, the desired impact, and the stock phrases.

    Abstract: A method for assisting the transformation of a dictated, into a structured and written, report within a specialized field. The method starts with using automated speed recognition to produce a preliminary textual representation, which it then transforms into a simplified and normalized input sequence, which it copies and then transforms the copy by replacing words with tokens appropriate to the class of word as known, rare, or reducible, thereby creating a tokenized input sequence. The method then identifies and removes any preamble from the narrative text and restores punctuation, before restoring for each token within the tokenized input sequence its separable individual and original word and thus producing punctuated narrative text for processing into the written and structured report.

    Abstract: The present invention provides patterned features of dimensions of less than 50 nm on a substrate. According to various embodiments, the features may be “Manhattan” style structures, have high aspect ratios, and/or have atomically smooth surfaces. The patterned features are made from polymer brushes grafted to a substrate. In some embodiments, the dimensions of the features may be determined by adjusting the grafting density and/or the molecular weight of the brushes. Once the brushes are patterned, the features can be shaped and reshaped with thermal or solvent treatments to achieve the desired profiles. The chemical nature of the polymer brush is thus independent of the patterning process, which allows for optimization of the polymer brush used for specific applications. Applications include masks for pattern transfer techniques such as reactive ion etching.

    Abstract: The present invention provides improved and compositions methods for replicating substrate patterns including patterns containing irregular features. The methods of the invention involve depositing block copolymer materials on a patterned substrate and ordering components in the material to replicate the pattern. In some embodiments, ordering is facilitated through the use of blends of the copolymer material and/or configuring substrate patterns so that regions of the substrate pattern interact in a highly preferential manner with at least one of the components in the copolymer material. The invention also provides compositions containing a substrate pattern with irregular features replicated in a block copolymer material.
