Patent number: 11156054Abstract: A packer actuation system for a blowout preventer includes a packer arrangement with an axial passage therethrough, an actuation system which is releasably mechanically connected to the packer arrangement, a contractor arrangement, and a retractor arrangement. The actuation system moves the packer arrangement from an expanded position to a contracted position so as to decrease a dimension of the axial passage, and to move the packer arrangement from the contracted position to the expanded position so as to increase the dimension of the axial passage. The contractor arrangement moves the packer arrangement from the expanded position to the contracted position. The retractor arrangement moves the packer arrangement from the contracted position to the expanded position.Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 2017Date of Patent: October 26, 2021Assignee: ELECTRICAL SUBSEA & DRILLING ASInventors: John L. Patent number: 10711555Abstract: A wellbore control device includes a housing defining a throughbore which can receive a tubular, a first gate with a first hole, and a second gate with a second hole. The first gate and the second gate are supported by the housing and and can perform a movement transverse to the throughbore between an open position and a closed position. The movement of the first gate and the second gate from the open position to the closed position splits the throughbore into an upper portion and a lower portion, the upper position and the lower positing being completely separate from each other. The first hole and the second hole are aligned substantially co-axially with the throughbore in the open position. A part of at least one of the first hole and the second hole remains aligned with the throughbore in the closed position.Type: GrantFiled: May 25, 2016Date of Patent: July 14, 2020Assignee: ELECTRICAL SUBSEA & DRILLING ASInventor: Erik Norbom

Publication number: 20190145217Abstract: A blow out preventer includes a main body with a main passage arranged therethrough, a ram movable between a first ram position in which the ram is spaced from the main passage and a second ram position in which the ram at least partly interrupts the main passage, and a bonnet releasably secured to the main body. The bonnet includes a hydraulic ram actuator coupled to the ram. The hydraulic ram actuator includes a primary piston arranged within a primary cylinder and fixed to a piston rod, and a secondary piston arranged within a secondary cylinder to be slidable on the piston rod. The primary piston and the secondary piston are each arranged to actuate the ram via the piston rod. The primary piston and the secondary piston each comprise a stroke length, the stroke length of the secondary piston being shorter than the stroke length of the primary piston.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 24, 2017Publication date: May 16, 2019Applicant: ELECTRICAL SUBSEA & DRILLING ASInventors: JOHN L. Patent number: 4906136Abstract: The invention relates to a method for connecting a conduit (5) to a subsea structure (1), which comprises laying the conduit on the sea floor, with a conduit end (8) in the area close to the subsea structure. The method is characterized in that the conduit end is gripped by a ROV (9) with a gripping manipulator (10), that ROV (9) with the gripped conduit end (8) is advanced to the subsea structure (1), that the conduit end is introduced like a piston in a suitable receiving member (2) in the subsea structure, and that a negative pressure is provided in the receiving member so that conduit end (8) is sucked into the receiving member (2). The invention also relates to a device for use in connecting a conduit end (8) to a subsea structure (1). Conduit end (8) is advanced from the side of subsea structure (1) into a receiving member (2) of the subsea structure and is secured there. Receiving member (2) and conduit end (8) are mutually adapted so that conduit end (8) can move like a piston in receiving member (2).Type: GrantFiled: June 13, 1988Date of Patent: March 6, 1990Assignee: Kvaerner Subsea Contracting A/SInventors: Erik Norbom, Rune Sletten
