  • Patent number: 7433802
Abstract: A communication system between a base station and a plurality of pieces of construction equipment, the communication system including a transmitter and receiver for transmitting measured operational information from the plurality of pieces of construction equipment to the base station. Each equipment piece includes an operational component that is susceptible to damage. A computer based controller is utilized for measuring a plurality of operational parameters of a respective equipment piece and communicating derived measured operational information. A calculator is used for calculating an amount of damage incurred by the component based on the communicated measured operational information concerning the respective equipment piece.

  • Publication number: 20080221771
Abstract: A method for controlling the rotational speed of at least one rotating element in a vehicle's drive line is provided. A first control model and a second control model are defined. The first control model calculates a permitted slippage of at least one of the vehicle's ground-engaging elements at its point of contact with the ground, which ground-engaging element is driven via the rotating element. The second control model calculates a torque delivered to the said ground-engaging element. The result of one of the said control models is utilized for controlling the rotational speed of the rotating element.

  • Patent number: 7283932
Abstract: Method and apparatus for estimating damage to an object, with at least a first parameter which corresponds to an operational state for the object and at least a second parameter which corresponds to a condition during the operational state being determined by at least one operation measurement, and with such measurement being carried out repeatedly. A total load that is defined by the total influence of the first and second parameters on the life of the object is then calculated. The invention also relates to a method and a system for controlling the use of the object.

  • Patent number: 7199870
Abstract: A system and method for providing polarization-independent optical sampling utilizes a differential group delay (DGD) element to split a sampling pulse source (SPS) into orthogonal components by controlling the state of polarization of the SPS at the DGD element input. The orthogonally-polarized sampling pulse components then each interact with the input optical signal waveform in a polarization-dependent sampling gate, creating two samples for each original sampling pulse. The generated samples are converted into the electrical domain by a photodetector with an impulse response time longer than that associated with the DGD element, resulting in a single impulse response representing the combined energy of the two samples that is independent of the state of polarization of the input optical signal waveform.

  • Patent number: 6912359
Abstract: A suite of optical performance monitoring (OPM) methods, based on optical subcarrier multiplexing, are described by the invention. The strength of this approach lies in the simplicity of double sideband subcarrier signals and the fact that these signals travel the complete optical path with the baseband signal of interest. The subcarrier signals can be recovered using techniques described in the application and are immune to fiber dispersion induced fading.

  • Publication number: 20050021320
Abstract: Method and arrangements for predicting life-affecting damage on a rotary member subjected to repeated loading during operation. A number of operating parameters are measured, and a temperature increase during each loading is calculated from the operating parameters. More precisely, a total temperature in a part of the rotary member is calculated for each loading by summation of basic temperature of the rotary member before the loading concerned and the temperature increase, and the values for the total temperature are used as a measure of the damage. The part of the rotary member for which the total temperature is calculated defines a surface that is acted on when the rotary member is loaded. Two sets of predetermined functions (M, N), which each comprise at least one function, are used for temperature-increase calculation, and the set which is used for temperature-increase calculation is selected depending on at least the nature of the rotary member.
