  • Patent number: 6403210
Abstract: The invention relates to a composite material, manufactured by dynamic densification of an amount of granular or powdered relatively brittle material or a mixture of one or more of such materials, wherein a continuous porous product is obtained, whereafter, by infiltration thereof with a second material, the brittle material particles are embedded in a continuous network of the second material. • Publication number: 20020039771
Abstract: The invention describes a method and its use for producing complex multienzymatical, storage resistant reaction mixtures for synthesizing, modifying or analyzing polypeptides and optionally nucleic acids characterized in that native or artificial enzymatical, active protein mixtures with reaction buffers, cofactors and substrates are prepared so that they are ready for use and are storage resistant such that only user-specific key components (e.g. mRNS) are missing to start the desired enzymatical reaction(s). In the method a stabilizer is added to the reaction mixtures in the solution which, on the one hand, increases the reacting capacity of the multienzymatical systems and, on the other hand, protects the unstable reaction components from losing their biological activity or their biologically active structure while being made storage resistant and during storage. The reaction mixture is made storage resistant by being easily freeze dried under a vacuum and then durably stored at 4-10° C.

  • Patent number: 6241018
Abstract: The present invention generally provides a running tool which can be released using hydraulic pressure and can provide continued rotation to a liner hanger or other tool disposed below and rotationally connected to the running tool. In one aspect, a hydraulic assembly is provided to release a thrusting cap from rotation so that a threaded connection between the running tool and the liner hanger can be released. On release of the liner hanger, a lock nut travels down a threaded surface of the thrusting cap and engages the thrusting cap to continue rotation through the thrusting cap. Additionally, the running tool may include a mechanical release operable without the assistance of hydraulic pressure.

  • Patent number: 6037465
Abstract: A universal process is disclosed for extracting and purifying nucleic acids from extremely small amounts of highly contaminated various biological and other starting materials. The invention has applications in forensic medicine, medical diagnosis, molecular biology, biochemistry, genetic technology and all related fields. The process is characterized in that nucleic acid-containing materials are lysed, the lysate is incubated with a non-porous, non-structured, highly disperse, homogeneous and chemically pure SiO.sub.2 substrate, the substrate is isolated with the bound nucleic acids and washed with a buffer solution, then the nucleic acids are dissolved from the substrate by a buffer with a lower salt concentration. Lysis of the material and nucleic acid immobilization are preferably carried out in a reaction vessel. The substrate particles have a size of 7-40 nm, preferably 40 nm, and a specific surface from 50-300 g/m.sup.2, preferably 50 g/m.sup.2.

  • Patent number: 5887170
Abstract: A method and system provide for selectively distributing communications between an application and multiple servers, allowing cooperative use of a single copy of an application. The system is situated between an application and the multiple servers. Requests from the application, responses to the requests, and events from the multiple servers, are managed in such a way that each server believes it is connected directly to the application and the application believes it is connected directly to a single server. The requests are categorized and distributed to the servers based on the type of request. The responses to these requests may be sent to the application or discarded based on the type of request and the role of the server sending the request. The events are also categorized and, based on the role of the server causing the event, they may be passed on to the application or discarded.
