  • Publication number: 20070089253
Abstract: An apparatus for cleaning a gas tube includes an actuator and a plunger head attached to the actuator. The actuator is configured to reciprocate the plunger head along a longitudinal axis of the gas tube between a retracted position and an extended position and to rotate the plunger head from a first angular position to a second angular position. A method of cleaning a gas tube includes positioning a plunger head including a plurality of longitudinally extending tines in the gas tube, rotating the plunger head relative to a longitudinal axis of the gas tube, and scraping deposits from an interior surface of the gas tube using longitudinally extending edges of the tines.

  • Patent number: 6187917
Abstract: The present invention provides a process for the preparation of purified caprolactam comprising the steps of: (a) depolymerizing polyamide-containing carpet in the presence of steam to obtain crude caprolactam and steam; (b) condensing or distilling said crude caprolactam and steam to form aqueous crude caprolactam comprising at least ten percent by weight water; (c) removing substantially all floating oil from the aqueous crude caprolactam so as to form a substantially floating oil-free aqueous crude caprolactam; (d) removing substantially all of said water from said substantially floating oil-free aqueous crude caprolactam; (e) distilling the resulting concentrated crude caprolactam at a pressure of less than about 8 mmHg and a temperature from about 110° C. to about 145° C. so as to form overheads and bottoms of the caprolactam; and (f) crystallizing the caprolactam overheads to obtain caprolactam crystals and mother liquor.

C. to about 145.degree. C. so as to form overheads and bottoms of the caprolactam; and(d) crystallizing the caprolactam overheads to obtain caprolactam crystals and mother liquor. The resulting purified caprolactam may then be used to make polycaprolactam which may then be used in engineered materials or spun into fiber.

  • Patent number: 5656757
Abstract: A process for recovering monomer from multi-component waste material that includes a hydrolyzable polymer, includes contacting the multi-component waste material with water and subjecting the resulting mixture to heat and pressure to form a liquid aqueous portion and a water insoluble portion. The liquid aqueous portion mainly includes depolymerization products of the hydrolyzable polymer, and the water insoluble portion mainly includes components other than the depolymerization products. This mixture is cooled and the liquid aqueous portion and the water insoluble portion are separated. Monomer that formed the hydrolyzable polymer is recovered from the liquid aqueous solution.

  • Patent number: 4097630
Abstract: A flame-retardant pile carpet having a relatively pliable primary backing and a tufted surface, said surface being comprised of fibers selected from the group consisting of polyester and polyamide fibers having incorporated therein from 0.1 to 15 percent by weight of a compound selected from the group consisting of zinc oxide and zinc hydroxide, said fibers being bonded to said backing with a bonding substance comprising a latex material and a hydrate material, said latex material being selected from the group consisting of polymers and copolymers of vinylidene chloride, and said hydrate material being selected from the group consisting of aluminum hydroxide and hydrated aluminum oxide, the ratio by weight of said latex material to said hydrate material being within the range 1:2 to 1:4.5.

  • Patent number: 4064298
Abstract: A flame-retardant polyamide fiber is prepared and made into a flame-retardant carpet. The polyamide fiber has incorporated therein from 1 to 15 percent by weight of zinc borate and from 1 to 15 percent of an organic halide which is substantially non-reactive with the polyamide except at temperatures above 300.degree. C. The flame-retardant fiber shows improved luster and improved colorfastness to light when dyed.
