  • Patent number: 4831033
Abstract: A procedure for the treatment of degenerative diseases of the central nervous system, including Alzheimer's disease, multiple sclerosis and the like, by the administration of amodiaquin and related compounds is disclosed.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 9, 1988
Date of Patent: May 16, 1989
    Assignee: City of Hope

  • Patent number: 4812447
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for treating nervous system deterioration associated with aging and Alzheimer's disease by administering a therapeutically-effective amount of dehydroepiandrosterone or its sulfate. Also disclosed is the co-administration of dehydroepiandrosterone or its sulfate and a potassium channel antagonist. The disclosure is also directed to pharmaceutical compositions containing dehydroepiandrosterone, alone or in combination with a potassium channel antagonist. Dehydroepiandrosterone is also shown to facilitate the growth of nervous system tissue, particularly in culture.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 11, 1986
Date of Patent: March 14, 1989
    Assignee: City of Hope
    Inventor: Eugene Roberts
  • Patent number: 4806537

    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 21, 1988
Date of Patent: February 21, 1989
    Assignee: City of Hope

  • Patent number: 4116263
Abstract: A mounting platform for heat producing instruments operated in a narrow equilibrium temperature range comprises a grid-like structure with relatively large openings therein. The instruments are secured to and thermally coupled with the grid surface facing the instruments. Excess heat from the instruments is selectively radiated to the ambient through openings in the grid, the grid surfaces at these openings exhibiting low thermal emissivity and adsorptivity. The remainder of the grid is maintained at the equilibrium temperature and is covered with a thermal insulating blanket. Thus, the entire system including the platform and instruments is maintained substantially isothermal, whereby the instruments remain in fixed physical relationship to one another.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: September 26, 1978
    Assignee: RCA Corporation
Inventors: Eugene Robert Ganssle, Ralph Richard Scott, Richard Jean Williams
  • Patent number: 4040435
Abstract: A fuel cell wherein the electrolyte comprises a volatilizable solvent and a solute whose solubility in the solvent varies with electrolyte temperature can be operated by increasing or decreasing the amount of solvent relative to the amount of solute as the solubility of the latter in the solvent respectively decreases or increases due to variations in the temperatures of the electrolyte in the cell or cell system.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 28, 1975
Date of Patent: August 9, 1977
Assignee: Exxon Research and Engineering Company
    Inventor: Eugene Robert Elzinga
  • Patent number: 4022247
Abstract: An improved balanced valve includes a radial arrray of pressure sensing passages in the main disc which extend from the axial opening to a peripheral region of the disc below the seating surface of the disc such that when fluid flow reverses, as when there is a rupture of the first flow passage, an upward force is generated on the main disc just prior to closure which tends to resist the closing force on the valve, the pressure sensing passages allowing a higher fluid pressure to be communicated to the region above the main valve disc assembly to effectively oppose this resistance to closure.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 13, 1976
Date of Patent: May 10, 1977
    Assignee: Rockwell International Corporation
Inventors: Raymond Louis Schweitzer, Eugene Robert Then, Eldert Bergen Pool
  • Patent number: 4013852
Abstract: A completely self-enclosed, weatherproof expulsion interruption device is disclosed which includes a detachable, arc-suppressing tube assembly which can be readily replaced in the field as needed, in conjunction with novel spring-loaded expulsion actuation mechanism for quickly breaking a high voltage circuit with only a minimum of objectionable arcing across the internal tube contacts of the device. The interrupter is especially adapted for use with high voltage, manually operable, blade-type switches and safely overcomes problems associated with arcing across switch contact points during opening thereof. As the switchblade is opened and engages the actuating arm of the interrupter, current is passed in shunt relationship through the interrupter until the respective switch contacts are safely parted.
