  • Publication number: 20050128972
Abstract: A method of managing resources allocated for HSDPA in a mobile communication system is provided. Upon initialization of HSDPA hardware, a Node B checks the status of available HSDPA resources and reports it to an RNC. If the Node B senses a change or failure in the HSDPA hardware, it checks the HSDPA resource status and reports it to the RNC. Therefore, resources are efficiently allocated for HSDPA and resource switching occurs quickly.

  • Publication number: 20050026607
Abstract: A method for ciphering MBMS (Multimedia Broadcast/Multicast Service) data in a wired/wireless communication system is provided. The MBMS service enables the same service or desired services to be provided to a number of users. In the ciphering method, a ciphering key for encoding MBMS data is previously provided to an authorized UE, and the authorized UE is informed of when MBMS data encoded using the ciphering key is to be transmitted, thereby preventing unauthorized UEs from illegally receiving the MBMS service.

  • Publication number: 20050007971
Abstract: A method for dividing MBMS control information provided to UEs for an MBMS service into three types and separately transmitting the divided MBMS control information according to their types. The MBMS control information is divided into first MBMS control information that is periodically transmitted, and second MBMS control information that is aperiodically transmitted due to occurrence of an event. The periodically transmitted first MBMS control information is divided into MBMS control information that is transmitted at a first periodic interval and MBMS control information that is transmitted at a second periodic interval. The first periodic interval is shorter than the second periodic interval to enable a UE desiring to receive a particular MBMS service to preferentially receive MBMS status information in advance of MBMS RB information.

  • Publication number: 20040229605
Abstract: A mobile communication system includes a radio network controller (RNC), at least one Node B, and at least one user equipment (UE) able to receive a broadcast service from the Node B. The RNC generates a paging control frame based on the paging information including paging indicator bit mapping information indicating paging for each broadcast service; transmits the paging control frame to the Node B; and receives a response message to the paging control frame from the Node B. The Node B receives paging information including paging indicator bit mapping information indicating paging for each broadcast service, from the RNC through a paging control frame; transmits a response message including the paging information to the RNC in response to the paging control frame; and transmits the paging indicator to the UE based on the paging information.

  • Publication number: 20040185837
Abstract: A method for managing information on user equipments (UEs) in a mobile communication system supporting an MBMS (Multimedia Broadcast/Multicast Service) service. A radio network controller (RNC) provides a packet switched (PS) service and a circuit switched (CS) service to the UEs. A UE that is in a Packet Mobility Management-Idle (PMM-Idle) mode after joining at least one MBMS service, transmits MBMS service-related information thereof to the RNC, and the RNC stores the MBMS service-related information in a first service context for the MBMS service held in the RNC, together with information on the UE.

  • Publication number: 20040180681
Abstract: A method for enabling a user equipment (UE) to recover from a multimedia broadcast/multicast service (MBMS) data error in a mobile communication system. The mobile communication system includes a radio network controller (RNC) and at least one cell for transmitting MBMS data to at least one UE according to a control operation of the RNC. The RNC transmits first control information to UEs located in each cell. Each of the UEs receives the first control information and the MBMS data. When an error in the received MBMS data is detected, the RNC is notified that an MBMS data reception error has occurred. Response information associated with the MBMS data reception error is transmitted from the UE to the RNC. The UE determines whether control information contained in the response information matches the first control information. The MBMS data reception error is recovered from, according to a result of the determination.

  • Publication number: 20040029616
Abstract: A multicast service of a 3GPP Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) is disclosed. By allowing an RNC to manage multicast group member information by multicast services on multicast areas, when a user terminal being currently provided with an MBMS service moves, the RNC sends information on the movement of the terminal to a core network. Since the RNC notifies the core network of the terminal's movement selectively on the basis of the multicast group member information by multicast services on the multicast area, the network resource can be effectively used, and especially, unnecessary transmission of terminal's movement information from the RNC to the multicast group managing entity of the core network can be prevented.

  • Publication number: 20040009767
Abstract: A radio link (RL) parameter updating method of a high speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) system in a mobile communication system is disclosed. According to a radio channel situation of a terminal, an RL parameter applied to transmission and reception of control information between the terminal and a base station is dynamically controlled. For this purpose, the RL parameter updating method includes: a step in which the base station determines whether to update an HSDPA related parameter and transmits the parameter update information to the RNC to trigger updating of the RL parameter; and a step in which the RNC updates the HSDPA related parameter and transmits it to the terminal. The parameter update information is delivered through an RL parameter update response message, and the RNC is a serving RNC.
