Publication number: 20160381356Abstract: A method and apparatus that tests video quality includes a superimposing of at least one code to a video that is to be transmitted by a communication device to another communication device. The at least one code is transmitted such that the superimposed at least one code is extractable and readable from the decoded video by the device that receives the transmitted video. The extracted at least one code may then be read to determine the quality level of the transmitted video. The determination of quality for the received video may be based upon one or more tests performed using at least one code extracted from the received video.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 13, 2016Publication date: December 29, 2016Inventors: Bizhan Karimi-Cherkandi, Farrokh Mohammadzadeh Kouchri, Schah Walli Ali, Thomas Nagel

Publication number: 20160360152Abstract: A method for outputting sensitive data to a user includes a communication terminal checking to determine whether at least a portion of the sensitive data is to be outputted by determining whether the communication terminal is in one of a plurality of predefined communication configurations for outputting the sensitive data. If the communication terminal is found to be a first configuration, the communication terminal transmits the sensitive data so that at least one of the video data and the audio data is output to the user via at least one peripheral device connected to the communication terminal. If the communication terminal is in a second configuration, the communication terminal performs at least one security action to help further protect the sensitive data.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 17, 2016Publication date: December 8, 2016Inventors: Bizhan Karimi-Cherkandi, Farrokh Mohammadzadeh Kouchri, Schah Walli Ali

Publication number: 20140379343Abstract: A method and apparatus that filters audio data received from a speaking person that includes a specific filter for that speaker. The audio characteristics of the speaker's voice may be collected and the specific filter may be formed to reduce noise while also enhancing voice quality. For instance, if a speaker's voice does not contain specific frequencies, then a filter may cancel the noise at such frequencies to ease noise cancellation and reduce processing sound spectrum for cleaning that is not needed. Additionally, the strength frequencies of a speaker's voice may be identified from the collected audio characteristics and those spectrums can be filtered with finer granularity to provide a speaker specific filter that enhances the voice quality of the speaker's voice data that is transmitted or output by a communication device. The audio data may also be output based upon a user's predefined hearing spectrum.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 20, 2012Publication date: December 25, 2014Applicant: Unify GmbH Co. Patent number: 8306018Abstract: A Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) communications system, a method of managing a communications network in such a system and a program product therefore. The system/network includes an ENERGY STAR (E-star) aware softswitch and E-star compliant communications devices at system endpoints. The E-star aware softswitch allows E-star compliant communications devices to enter and remain in power saving mode. The E-star aware softswitch spools messages and forwards only selected messages (e.g., calls) to the devices in power saving mode. When the E-star compliant communications devices exit power saving mode, the E-star aware softswitch forwards spooled messages.Type: GrantFiled: February 4, 2008Date of Patent: November 6, 2012Assignee: Siemens Enterprise Communications, Inc.Inventor: Farrokh Mohammadzadeh Kouchri

Publication number: 20110158226Abstract: A digital telecommunications system 100, a method of managing communications in such a system 100 and a program product 106, 120 for managing audio transmission in a digital communications system 100. Devices at network endpoints 108, 110, 112, e.g. session initiation protocol (SIP) devices, selectively, transparently provide voice samples 132, 132A, 132B, 134, 134A, 134B of sufficient quality for authentication 172 and identification during conversations 130 with the devices 108, 110, 112. The devices 108, 110, 112 respond to an authentication request 126, 128, e.g., from a bank accounting application 106, by collecting authentication samples 132, 132A, 132B, 134, 134A, 134B of an ongoing conversation with the samples 132, 132A, 132B, 134, 134A, 134B having sufficient detail for authentication 172. The devices 108, 110, 112 send the authentication samples 132, 132A, 132B, 134, 134A, 134B in parallel (e.g., segmented in the signaling channel 156) that do not disrupt the conversation 130.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 15, 2008Publication date: June 30, 2011Inventor: Farrokh Mohammadzadeh Kouchri

Publication number: 20100166167Abstract: A method and an apparatus are provided for managing subscriber profile information. The method provides a database containing a global subscriber profile, wherein the global subscriber profile includes the subscriber profile information. A network element serving a subscriber terminal requests information from the global subscriber profile associated with a subscriber identity presented by the subscriber terminal. The method then determines if all global subscriber profile information required for performing a function of the network element is compatible with the network element and transforms incompatible information into information compatible with the network element.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 28, 2006Publication date: July 1, 2010Applicant: NOKIA SIEMENS NETWORKS GMBH & CO.
