  • Publication number: 20060289457
Abstract: A heater for a vehicle is provided with a glow plug/flame detector and a control device for controlling the electrical wattage supplied to the glow plug during the starting phase of the heater. In order to devise a vehicle which offers a high safety standard and reduced emission of pollutants during a starting process of its heater, the glow plug/flame detector can be adjusted to a certain resistance value (10), and during control, the electric wattage supplied to the glow plug/flame detector can be determined, and the determined actual wattage value (20) can be compared to at least one threshold wattage value (30), and the starting phase can be influenced depending on this.

  • Patent number: 7011179
Abstract: An arrangement having an auxiliary heater, a catalytic converter (12) for catalytic post-combustion of exhaust gas from the heater, a muffler (14) for damping of the noise caused by the exhaust gas, and an exhaust line for removing exhaust gas from the auxiliary heater. In order especially to devise an auxiliary heater in which the muffler and the catalytic converter can be installed relatively easily, the muffler (14) and the catalytic converter (12) are combined in sing module (10) that can be located on the exhaust line.

  • Patent number: 6890170
Abstract: A heater in which, during the glow plug ramp time interval, the amount of energy supplied per unit of time to the glow plug/flame monitor can be successively changed, and a control unit which is operationally coupled to the glow plug/flame monitor. To enable continuous flame monitoring during the starting phase of the heater with the control unit, the resistance value of the glow plug/flame monitor is determined during the glow plug ramp time interval and compared to a threshold value RGS, and when the threshold value RGS is not reached, a flame-out signal is generated.

  • Patent number: 6743012
Abstract: A heating apparatus for a motor vehicle including a heat exchanger having a wall for separating a heated exhaust gas from a heat exchange medium, a conveyor mechanism for conveying the heat exchange medium along the wall, and a protective mechanism for protecting the heater against overheating. The protective mechanism determines the mass flow of the heat exchange medium delivered by the conveyor mechanism when the heater is actuated so that the danger of overheating the heater is reliably detected when the delivery of the heat exchange medium is dammed.

  • Publication number: 20030022123
Abstract: The invention relates to an atomizing burner, especially for use in an automobile auxiliary heating system, comprising an atomizing nozzle (2) for processing the fuel, an ignition device (29) and a combustion chamber (8). An iar conduction device (10, 12, 14) is connected upstream of a nozzle holder (3) of the atomizing nozzle (2) in order to achieve finer atomization of the fuel. Said air conduction device subjects the combustion air streaming into the atomizing nozzle (2) to a swirl.
