  • Patent number: 5069482
Abstract: In a cylinder a rod is received which at its one end projects out of the cylinder and at its other end defines a free space in which a plurality of roller elements are accommodated. The outer diameter of the annular arrangement formed by the roller elements is greater than the inner diameter of the cylinder bore. Under a high tensile load between the cylinder and rod the roller elements penetrate into the material of the cylinder wall and with formation of longitudinal grooves deformation work is performed by which a high energy amount is converted and load peaks eliminated from the belt system.

  • Patent number: 5039127
Abstract: A retraction element in the form of a pivotally mounted lever or of a linearly slidable slider is mounted on a base plate to be preferably attached to the vehicle seat. The lever or slider is loaded by a strong flat spiral spring, but is held in a stable rest position by a latching device. The latching device consists of two roller body systems functionally connected in series. The first roller body system consists of two outer rolls and an inner, loose roll bearing on one roll of the second system. The second system consists of two outer rolls and an inner roll being situated in an over-dead-center position and mounted on one arm of a double-armed lever whose other arm carries a vehicle sensitive inertial mass. A release threshold may be defined precisely and reproducibly by means of this latching device.

  • Patent number: 5029769
Abstract: A retractor shaft is rotatably mounted in a loadbearing housing. A webbing clamping means consists of a clamping member mounted movably on the housing and a housing-fixed clamping face disposed opposite to and spaced from said member. The actuation of the clamping member is via an actuating nose on a ring which is provided with an internal toothing and which is rotatably mounted on a side plate of the housing. On one side of the retractor shaft two pawls are eccentrically and pivotally mounted in their center of gravity in such a manner that the engagement faces lie opposite the internal toothing of the ring. The pawls are driven by mass inertia forces against the force of a return spring into coupling engagement with the internal toothing of the ring. The longitudinal component of the arcuate movement of the actuating nose is transmitted directly via a pin and a slot to the clamping member.

  • Patent number: 5005909
Abstract: The force-limiting energy absorber for safety belt systems comprises a series of stretch members lying one behind the other in the direction of the tensile stress. Each stretch member comprises an opening which is surrounded by a border deformable under a tension load. In the openings limiting elements are disposed which limit in abutment manner the deformation of the border transversely of the direction of the tensile stress. The limiting elements may be made mushroom-shaped and integrally formed on the border of the stretch members.

  • Patent number: 5003220
Abstract: A tri-color lamp for use as an element in the optical presentation of information. The lamp includes a sealed envelope having a common envelope member and a plurality (e.g., three) of longitudinally extending leg members. A common electrode is located within the common envelope member and is spacedly located from opposing electrodes located within each of the leg members. A phosphor layer within the sealed envelope subtends at least the major body portion of each of the leg members such that the surface brightness of the phosphor layer as viewed through the end portions of the lamp is greater than the intensity of the external surface brightness of the phosphor layer on the major body portion. In the presentation of color information, each of the leg members is coated with respective phosphors emitting the primary colors red, green and blue.

  • Patent number: 4991790
Abstract: Two coupling pawls are mounted eccentrically and pivotably in their center of gravity on a drive pulley of the tightening rotary drive. A coupling ring is non-rotatably connected to the belt coiling shaft of the belt retractor. The coupling ring comprises an internal toothing into which the coupling pawls are driven solely by the action of inertia forces to establish a coupling connection. The coupling pawls are offset in the peripheral direction with respect to each other by an angle which corresponds to an odd multiple of half the pitch of the internal toothing of the coupling ring.

  • Patent number: 4983880
Abstract: The present invention is directed to novel AC thin film electroluminescent display devices employing a protective dielectric stripe along the edges of the transparent electrode (or conductor). In particular, the present invention is directed to an AC thin film electroluminescent display device comprising:a multilayer stack including a first dielectric layer; a phosphor layer; and a second dielectric layer; situated on a glass substrate which includes parallel stripes of etched transparent conductors;said multilayer stack further including a protective stripe of dielectric material placed at least along the edges of the transparent conductors. The present invention is also directed to a method for protecting an AC thin film electroluminescent display device against premature breakdown at the edges of the transparent conductors. This protection is achieved by depositing a stripe of dielectric material along the edges of the transparent conductors.

  • Patent number: 4927175
Abstract: The drive device of lightweight construction for restraining systems in motor vehicles, in particular safety-belt tightening means, comprises a pyrotechnical gas generator, the gases of which act on a working chamber. The working chamber comprises an outwardly leading relief path which is sealed by a closure element of a material which at a temperature which lies above the operating temperature range of the gas generator but which at the most is equal to the self-igniting temperature of the gas generator softens at least to such an extent that the closure element on ignition of the gas generator frees the relief path but which at temperatures beneath the operating temperature range of the gas generator has a mechanical strength such that the relief path remains sealed by the closure element under the gas action.

  • Patent number: 4907821
Abstract: A height adjustment device is provided which is suitable for combination with a webbing tightener. Unintentional release of the locking engagement by the downwardly directed inertia forces on the slide are avoided in that by means of a compensating mass a compensation force is generated which simultaneously acts on the slide and opposes the inertia forces of the latter. A two-armed lever which is pivotally mounted in its center and to the one end of which the compensating mass is secured converts the downwardly directed inertia forces originating from the compensating mass to an upwardly directed compensation force acting on the slide.

Abstract: The belt retractor is provided with a vehicle-sensitive and webbing-sensitive locking mechanism. At the two side faces of the belt coiling shaft in each case two locking pawls are pivotably mounted eccentrically thereto. They are each biased by a return spring into their rest position out of engagement with the teeth of a housing-fixed ratchet toothing member. The locking pawls are each mounted in their center of gravity. The webbing-sensitive locking takes place solely under the action of inertia forces.

  • Patent number: 4903381
Abstract: A fastener mechanism for the chin strap of a helmet. An insertion lock is secured to the helmet shell and has a receiving channel for receiving the fastener part of the chin strap. The fastener part is longitudinally displaceably provided in the receiving channel, with arresting teeth being disposed one after the other in the longitudinal direction on at least one narrow side of the fastener part. An arresting member is disposed in the insertion lock on one side of the receiving channel thereof and cooperates with the teeth of the fastener part. The arresting member is disposed essentially alongside the fastener part at least nearly in a plane therewith. A spring exerts force on the arresting member in a direction toward the fastener part, with the arresting member assuming an engagement position with the fastener part that prevents the latter from being pulled out of the insertion lock. A handle is provided for shifting the arresting member into a disengaged position whereby the fastener part is released.

  • Patent number: 4846498
Abstract: In the safety belt restraining system a tightening means is combined with a height adjuster for the upper deflection fitting of the shoulder belt. By offsetting of the pivot axis of the detent lever of the height adjuster in the forward direction with respect to the engagement point of the deflection fitting, on activation of the tightening means a turning moment is generated at the detent lever by which said lever is pivoted into engagement with the next available detent opening of the height adjuster.
