    Abstract: Method for synthesis of an enzymatic nucleic acid by providing a 3' and a 5' portion of the enzymatic nucleic acid having independent chemically reactive groups at the 5' and 3' positions, respectively, under conditions in which a covalent bond is formed between the 3' and 5' portions by the chemically reactive groups. The bond is selected from the group consisting of, disulfide, morpholino, amide, ether, thioether, amine, a double bond, sulfonamide, ester, carbonate, and hydrazone. The bond is not the natural bond formed between a 5' phosphate group and a 3' hydroxyl group.
