    Abstract: This invention addresses how an end user can create an electroluminescent device (1, 31) using basic components obtained by the end user as retail items. The layers or subassemblies (15, 17) are created first. Then the layers are assembled to form a completed device customized as selected by the end user. The subassemblies may be created layer-by-layer by thermal inkjet. Elements used typically will be made by manufacturers and sold commercially separately. This encompasses the printing of conductive patterns for electroluminescence on paper. In one aspect a display has a main body that may be permanent and useful indefinitely, while a part carrying the conductive pattern defining the display is readily removed and is replaced by another such part on which a new conductive pattern is printed. For tight contact with the main body, the display provides releasable pressure. Air pockets are minimized with a thin layer of highly viscous dielectric liquid.

    Abstract: A layer of material that binds to the next material to be printed is applied. In an embodiment this material is a resin containing a porous silica. The number of printing passes and amount of liquid accumulation is reduced by selecting ingredients of the ink to act both as a humectant and as a layer former, which permits the ink to have high amounts of active ingredient. In an implementation, two materials, the first an ink depositing amine and the second an ink depositing epoxy, are printed separately. They react in situ to form a single, dielectric layer. When the lower layer is a conductive metal trace or a wiring crossover on, for example, a paper substrate, a second metal trace perpendicular to the lower trace may be formed on the dielectric layer to form a capacitive circuit configuration.

    Abstract: A soft landing control system for a screeding device is operable to automatically lower a vibrating member of a screed head assembly into engagement with a concrete surface at a time and place where the vibrating member is not positioned over an overlap area of already screeded concrete. The vibrating member is automatically lowered onto newly placed concrete at or near the junction or cold-joint between the already screeded concrete and the area of newly placed concrete, so as to avoid depressions in the already placed concrete. Optionally, the soft landing control system may include a timing device and may lower the vibrating member after a period of time following an activating event. Optionally, the control system may detect when the vibrating device is positioned at or near the newly placed concrete and may lower the vibrating member in response to such detection.

The micro-fluid ejection device includes a semiconductor substrate containing a plurality of thermal ejection actuators disposed thereon. Each of the thermal ejection actuators includes a resistive layer and a protective layer for protecting a surface of the resistive layer. The resistive layer and the protective layer together define an actuator stack thickness. The actuator stack thickness ranges from about 500 to about 2000 Angstroms and provides an ejection energy per unit volume of from about 10 to about 20 gigajoules per cubic meter. A nozzle plate is attached to the semiconductor substrate to provide the micro-fluid ejection device.

    Abstract: A micro-fluid ejection device structure and method therefor having improved low energy design. The devices includes a semiconductor substrate and an insulating layer deposited on the semiconductor substrate. A plurality of heater resistors are formed on the insulating layer from a resistive layer selected from the group consisting of TaAl, Ta2N, TaAl(O,N), TaAlSi, Ti(N,O), WSi(O,N), TaAlN, and TaAl/TaAlN. A sacrificial layer selected from an oxidizable metal and having a thickness ranging from about 500 to about 5000 Angstroms is deposited on the plurality of heater resistors. Electrodes are formed on the sacrificial layer from a first metal conductive layer to provide anode and cathode connections to the plurality of heater resistors. The sacrificial layer is oxidized in a plasma oxidation process to provide a fluid contact layer on the plurality of heater resistors.
