Publication number: 20190120449Abstract: A recessed lighting fixture for installation in an inclined ceiling has an enclosure and a lighting assembly pivotal relative to the enclosure through a first and second range of relative angles such that an optical axis can be aligned vertically for the first and second ranges. First and second trim element are adapted for use with the first and second ranges of inclinations. The first and second trim elements have optical element aligned at different angles, and a relative angle between the optical elements and the reflector plane is less than or equal to 10 degrees. An angle indicator provides a proper relative angle of the lighting assembly and a trim indicator provides an indication of a proper trim element.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 23, 2018Publication date: April 25, 2019Inventors: Jonathan I. Jones, Frank Cogliano, Howard D. Delano

Publication number: 20180328573Abstract: A light fixture having an upper and lower housing, and a mounting bracket adapted to mount to a junction box. The light fixture has a relatively short mounting bracket for surface mount configurations, and a relatively long mounting bracket for recess mount configurations, and a difference in the height of the long and short mounting brackets is equal to the height of the junction box. In the surface-mount and recess-mount configurations a circumferential edge of the upper housing abuts the mounting surface so the lighting fixture has the same external appearance and size in both configurations. The light fixture also has a pendant mode wherein the upper housing is suspended from the junction box by an elongated support. An enclosure for the junction box has a plurality of cut-outs and covers to accommodate various configurations of surface mounted conduit.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 7, 2018Publication date: November 15, 2018Inventors: Jaclyn Behnke, Frank Cogliano

Patent number: 9726354Abstract: A light fixture has a frame with an aperture and an enclosure having a driver compartment and a junction compartment. The enclosure is movable relative to the frame. In an operation position, the driver and junction compartments are laterally displaced from the aperture and a lighting module is mountable in the aperture from a room-facing side of the light fixture. In a service position, an opening of the driver compartment is laterally aligned with the aperture such that the lighting driver is removably mountable in the driver compartment through the aperture and the opening of the driver compartment, from the room-facing side of the light fixture. In an inspection position, an opening of the junction compartment is laterally aligned with the aperture, and an interior of the junction compartment is visible through the aperture and the opening of the junction compartment, from a room-facing side of the light fixture.Type: GrantFiled: October 17, 2016Date of Patent: August 8, 2017Assignee: USAI, LLCInventors: Howard D. Patent number: 8469536Abstract: A recessed light assembly having an illumination element and having an enclosure attachable to a support structure of a dwelling has a rotating aperture plate rotatably mounted to a wall of the enclosure. The rotating aperture plate has an illumination aperture disposed over an opening in the wall of the enclosure and the recessed light assembly has adjustable fasteners, accessible from an exterior of the recessed light assembly, which adjustable fasteners selectively permit and prevent rotation of the rotating aperture plate relative to the enclosure allowing a user to adjust the rotational alignment of the illumination aperture relative to the enclosure of an installed light assembly without disengaging an attached assembly from the support structure. The illumination element may be fixed relative to the rotating aperture plate or may be fixed relative to the enclosure.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 2010Date of Patent: June 25, 2013Assignee: USAI, LLCInventor: Frank Cogliano

Patent number: 8215805Abstract: A recessed light fixture has vertical tilt and horizontal rotation adjustments recessed radially outwardly from a trim aperture defining ring for a cleaner aspect of the lamp aperture. A lamp holder is reachable through the trim aperture for manually returning the lamp holder from a tilted position to a vertical position and is releasable downward from the fixture for relamping in response to manual pulling force. A mechanical memory returns the lamp holder to the initial tilted position upon reinsertion of the lamp holder and release of the manual pulling force. The lamp fixture can be miniaturized to a size of about 2.5 inches in diameter and sized to fit in a ceiling cutout of about 3.5 inches in diameter.Type: GrantFiled: May 22, 2009Date of Patent: July 10, 2012Assignee: USAI, LLCInventors: Frank Cogliano, Stanley Edward Mayer, Patrick Fuchs, Christopher William McQuillan

Patent number: 7108401Abstract: A specialized lighting fixture, such as a framing projector provided with a plurality of adjustable framing shutters, is modified to incorporate a pair of locking rings, surrounding the body of the lighting fixture and positioned on opposite sides of outwardly projecting portions of the framing shutters. After initial adjustment of the framing shutters has been completed, the locking rings are tightly compressed together, as by locking screws positioned between adjacent pairs of framing shutters, to lock the shutters in position against unintended dislodgment. For lighting fixtures of non-uniform shape, the locking rings may be made in two parts, preferably hinged together, which are secured together after being positioned on the housing of the lighting fixture. The locking rings are particularly adapted for retrofit installation on lighting fixtures of existing design.Type: GrantFiled: February 20, 2004Date of Patent: September 19, 2006Assignee: Lighting Services, Inc.Inventors: Kenneth M.
