  • Publication number: 20030021058
Abstract: A portable data storage drive cartridge has external interfaces positioned respectively at opposite ends of a cartridge shell. They may be arranged to be similar when the cartridge is rotated end over end to a reverse direction with respect to the opposite ends. A data storage drive, such as a magnetic disk drive assembly, having an interface, is positioned in the cartridge shell with the drive interface positioned toward a first end and away from a second end of the opposite ends of the cartridge shell. Flex cables extend from the drive interface, a first extending from the drive interface around the drive to the external interface at the second end of the cartridge shell, and a second extending from the drive interface, initially around the drive toward the second end, and reversing direction and extending back to the external interface at the first end of the cartridge shell.

  • Publication number: 20020180480
Abstract: A method and apparatus for interface signaling using single-ended and differential data signals improves performance of an interface. A differential pair of data signals and at least one single-ended data signal are transmitted over the interface. The differential pair of data signals is received by a differential receiver and the single-ended data signals are received by a receiver that uses the differential pair of data signals to improve the detection of the single-ended data signal. A novel receiver having a differential input and a single-ended input combines the differential pair of data signals with a single-ended data signal to detect the single-ended data signal providing improved common-mode rejection and reducing the error rate of the single-ended signal. Multiple single-ended signals may be associated with one differential signal, providing a scalable architecture grouping a number of single-ended signals with each differential pair of signals.

  • Patent number: 6473706
Abstract: An automated system having removable system components is self-configured, first, determining whether configuration data is available, for example, in a non-volatile memory. If available, the processor reads a system identifier of the configuration data, compares the read and a sensed system identifier, and, if they match, ends the self-configuration. Otherwise, the system senses the removable system components, configuring the system. A sensor is moved to sense the presence or absence each of the removable system components at substantially the expected location of the component. The system operates a movable sensor to calibrate a relative position with respect to the calibration mark.

  • Publication number: 20020144829
Abstract: A redesigned three point tractor hitch system engageable and disengageable by an operator without leaving the tractor seat. This comprises eliminating the present used fish eye, ball joint ends of the two lower arms and the middle upper arm and replacing with extremities that can be positioned, attached and locked from the tractor seat. The two lower arm extremities have a fixed open jaw design that attaches to the implement studs from underneath and are locked in position by extending the shaft of a hydraulic cylinder over the studs and through the center of the jaw. The upper arm is attached by a fixed and moveable jaw design that closes and latches when pressure is applied against it from the pin that is mounted in the center mask of the implement. The upper jaw is carried by a hydraulic cylinder that aids in attaching, plus controls the fore and aft movement of the implement.

  • Patent number: 6442223
Abstract: A method and system for increasing speeds of transferring data in a data transfer system which includes a data source and data sink. Both the data source and data sink include clocks which are synchronized to a common clock frequency. A buffer is provided at the data sink and this buffer is utilized to received data from the data source. A control circuit is provided at the data sink and this control circuit receives a bus clock signal from the data source. An N segment dynamic shift register is provided within the data sink which includes at least two segments. A selectable shift control is provided for passing the data through an M segment subset of the N segment shift register, where M is less than N. Additionally, the length of the M segment subset is determined by the phase of a clock within the data sink at the time which the bus clock signal from the data source is received at the data sink.

  • Publication number: 20020087920
Abstract: Provided is a method, system, and program for providing status information in a system comprised of multiple components. A first processing node receives status information indicating a state of a system component and generates a status message indicating the state of the system component. The first processing node transmits the status message to a second processing node. The second processing node updates information maintained by the second processing node with the state of the system component indicated in the status message. Status information maintained by the second processing node is returned to a request for status.

  • Publication number: 20020078402
Abstract: A method, program and system for electrical shorts testing are provided. The invention comprises setting any chips to be tested to drive 0's on their drive interfaces, and setting all receive interfaces on the chips to receive 0's and log any failures. Next a single receive interface is selected for testing. A hardware shift register is associated with each drive side interface, wherein each bit of the register is connected to an off-chip driver on the interface. This hardware shift register for the selected interface is then set to all 0's, and the first bit of the shift register is loaded to a 1. The invention then performs a pause count. After this count, the 1 is shifted to the next bit in the register and another pause count is performed. This process is repeated until the 1 is walked completely through the register and all pins on the interface have been tested. The walking 1 test is then repeated for any additional interfaces that require testing.

  • Patent number: 6304524
Abstract: A method for balancing workloads in media library access systems that provide multiple accessors disposed within a library. Each of the accessors is assigned a given zone of primary access wherein each of the zones of primary access has at least one boundary. Accessor usage is calculated by adding a score for each access to total accesses for each accessor. The totals are evaluated to determine that one or more of the boundaries requires adjustment and the boundaries are adjusted in accordance with the evaluation. By changing the average span of each accessor dynamically, the method can equalize the use of each accessor, minimizing library latency.
