  • Patent number: 5524347
Abstract: A movable blade cartridge including a platform member having a blade seat and a guard member. The guard member is located of forward and parallel to the blade seat so as to form a longitudinal slot between the blade seat and the guard member. A primary blade which is disposed on the blade seat such that the cutting edge of the blade is located rearwardly of the guard member. A substantial portion of the primary blade extends into the slot formed between the guard member and the blade seat such that the blade is flexible into the slot. A spacer is located on the upper surface of the primary blade. The spacer comprises a rear portion which functions to separate the primary blade and a secondary blade, as well as a forward portion which extends from the rear portion and functions to prevent upward movement of the primary blade, and create an opening beneath the forward portion of the spacer and the lower surface of the secondary blade.

  • Patent number: 5517760
Abstract: A spacer for maintaining separation between a first and a second blade in a razor blade cartridge, both the first and second blades having a forward cutting edge. The spacer includes a member forming an upper and lower surface having a plurality of holes extending therethrough, and a protrusion disposed around each opening on the upper surface of the member so as to form channels between one another. The spacer further includes an arcuate shaped skin engaging portion disposed on a forward edge of the member such that the arcuate shaped skin engaging portion intersects the plane formed by the cutting edge of the first and second blade.

  • Patent number: 5347714
Abstract: A razor head comprises a body portion defining a guard and a cap, and a blade assembly having a blade disposed therein. The blade assembly is mounted by a first and second mounting member to the body portion in relation to the guard and cap in a manner to comprise a four-bar linkage. The body portion defines a stationary member of the four-bar linkage. The first and second mounting members each have one end connected to the body portion in a manner to define rotational members of the four-bar linkage about a separate axis of rotation for each of the first and second mounting members. The blade assembly is connected to the other end of the first and second mounting members to define a movable four-bar member responsive to rotational movement of the first and second mounting members so that shaving forces acting upon the blade assembly cause the blade assembly to move relative to the body portion.

  • Patent number: 4823457
Abstract: A method of cold staking a scalpel blade to a scalpel handle wherein the blade has a key slot complementarily configured to a projecting boss formed on the end of the blade handle. The boss has two elements at its opposite ends which project beyond an intermediate portion. When cold staked, the material of the projecting portions flows over the outside surface of the blade to secure the blade to the handle at those points where loading of the blades is anticipated to be a maximum whereas the intermediate portion of the blade receives the boss, which boss is not cold staked at that area to the blade. The handle is formed of a polypropylene having a filler of 25-35% by weight of talc.
