  • Patent number: 5992325
Abstract: A method for automatically detecting at least one printing plate edge in at least one clamping device of a plate cylinder of a printing press includes detecting at least one of a position of a printing plate edge and a respective presence and absence of a printing plate edge in the at least one clamping device by at least one sensor, the printing plate edge being detected being the printing plate trailing edge, and the clamping device by which it is detected being the trailing edge clamping device, and a device for performing the detecting method, including at least one sensor disposed in a trailing edge clamping device of the plate cylinder for detecting at least one of a position of the printing plate trailing edge and a respective presence and absence of the printing plate trailing edge in the trailing edge clamping device, and at least one transmitter for transmitting the signals from the plate cylinder to stationary parts of the printing press.

  • Patent number: 5172956
Abstract: A hydraulic system having a pressure generator which is protected against destructive overload. The hydraulic system has a pulsating feeding pressure generator, such as a piston pump, which feeds pressure fluid at high pressure into a damper chamber of a housing. A throttle body having a throttle bore is disposed on the outlet side of the damper chamber. For producing the protective effect, the damper chamber is preceded by a rupture disk communicating with the outlet. The throttle body suitably has a thin-walled portion, embodied as a rupture disk, in which the throttle bore is located. The embodiment described is advantageously usable in hydraulic systems in which pressure fluids are pulsatingly fed at high pressures.

  • Patent number: 4858539
Abstract: A rotational stitching apparatus with separately driven stitching head is used for stitching folded sheets by wire and thread clamping, thread sealing, and loop thread stitching. The drive system permits autarkic stitching heads to be optionally replaced and to be adjusted in correspondence with the product assortment. Each stitching head has a stitching head driveshaft, by means of which it is connected to the stitching cylinder driveshaft 1 or the cylinder axle 37, preferably by way of a gear or the toothed belt. Implementation of various stitching technologies is made possible by additional apparatus disposed peripherally to the stitching cylinder circumference.

  • Patent number: 4850520
Abstract: A cylinder stitching device for binding single sheets for thread sealing, modified French sewing, as well as for wire stitching, includes a stitching cylinder that is controlled by central cams. The stitching cylinder is equipped with stitching heads which can be automatically lubricated, are adjustable, and can optionally be replaced. The production arrangement, attached peripherally to the circumference of the stitching cylinder, is likewise replaceable and automated, so that, by use of the adjusting devices provided for the cylinder stitching device, rapid adaptation to changing processing material as well as high productivity are guaranteed.

  • Patent number: 4578052
Abstract: In a method and an apparatus to test folded sheets for folding deviations from the reference folding line, to be used in pocket folding - or cutting folding machines, markings are made on the folding material, corresponding with the print format, and are sensed by sensors, preferably electro-optical reflection sensors after the material has been folded inside the machine, to obtain the position information. The evaluation position information derived from the output of the sensors for a number of folded sheets is rigid to determine the adjustments of the machine necessary to correct the deviations.

  • Patent number: 4456379
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a process for determining the thickness of adhesive layers placed on book block backings by initially measuring the position of a backing before adhesive is applied to establish a reference point, applying adhesive, then measuring the position of the backing with adhesive to determine the thickness of the adhesive layer. Distances to a standard reference plane may be measured both before and after application of the adhesive, and the differences in respective positions may be used to determine thickness of the adhesive layer. Two such measurements before and after adhesive application are recommended, with the readings averaged to give a mean thickness of the adhesive layer. Measurements are preferably carried out by means of laser beam technology, with the aid of a beam splitter.
