  • Patent number: 6045151
Abstract: A seat assembly having a side air bag with a force concentrator at least partially surrounding the air bag to concentrate and direct the force of the inflating air bag to a designed deployment seam to cause the seam to rupture and allow the air bag to deploy therethrough. The force concentrator avoids the application of the air bag deployment force on the trim cover material and thus reduces the influence of the trim cover on the air bag deployment and prevents stretching of the trim cover. The force concentrator forms a non-stretchable structure at least partially surrounding the air bag which carries the air bag force and directs it to the deployment seam. This produces a consistent deployment of the air bag from one seat assembly to the next and also over time as the trim cover and seat wears.

  • Patent number: 5646817
Abstract: An adjustable keyboard assembly for a portable personal computer includes a keyboard, split along a predetermined breakline defining two keyboard sections, removable from the portable personal computer. In order to facilitate angular positioning of the keyboard sections as well as removal of the keyboard sections from the portable personal computer housing, the keyboard sections are mechanically coupled together, for example, with a hinge at one end of the breakline. Such a configuration enables the relative angular positions of the keyboard sections to be custom positioned by the individual user for maximum adjustability in accordance with the user's preference both on and removed from the portable personal computer housing. Unlike other known keyboards, the keyboard, in accordance with the present invention, is formed in standard QWERTY format so as not to require retraining of users.

  • Patent number: 5597209
Abstract: An adjustable armrest for a vehicle seat in which a ratchet mechanism is provided to resist downward movement of the armrest and allow upward movement to adjust the armrest position relative to the seat back. The ratchet mechanism is released upon raising the armrest passed the upper end of its adjustment range enabling the armrest to be lowered to the lower end of its adjustment range wherein the ratchet mechanism again engages to hold the armrest in place. Attachment of the armrest to the seat back is provided by sliding the armrest over a mounting stud extending laterally from the seat back. A wire spring clip attached to the armrest seats in a groove in the stud to hold the armrest axially on the mounting stud. When assembled, the spring clip will be positioned at the interface between the armrest and the seat back enabling a flat tool such as a screw driver to be inserted between the armrest and the seat back to manipulate the clip to remove the armrest.

  • Patent number: 5556129
Abstract: A seat back for a motor vehicle having a tower extending upwardly from the seat back upper end along one lateral side of the seat back. The tower contains an inflatable air bag which is deployable to provide head side impact protection for a seat occupant. By mounting the air bag within a raised tower, the air bag is deployed from a higher location in the seat back to reduce the possibility of interference between the air bag and a shoulder belt. Furthermore, by not mounting the air bag to the seat back head restraint, it is possible to provide a fully adjustable head restraint attached to the seat back and extending upwardly from the seat back upper end. A removable side bolster is also provided which covers the air bag canisters mounted to the seat back frame. Following deployment of an air bag, the bolster and air bag canister are removed and replaced with new components. This enables the seat assembly to be repaired without replacement of the entire seat assembly or seat back.

  • Patent number: 4618359
Abstract: New herbicidal chemical compounds of the formula: ##STR1## wherein X is trifluoromethyl; Y is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, halogen, nitro and cyano and R is selected from the group consisting of nitro, alkylthio, halogen and cyano; herbicidal compositions thereof and methods of controlling weeds therewith. The compound, 3-tetrahydrofuryl 2-nitro-5-(2-chloro-4-trifluoromethylphenoxy) benzoate, is particularly useful for the control of the weed, velvetleaf, and safe to corn and soybean. Velvetleaf is found in corn and soybean crops and its presence will lower the yield of these crops.
