Patent number: 5251887Abstract: A machine vise is provided with a body having a fixed jaw and a movable jaw which may be moved toward the fixed jaw by means of a tractively acting hollow screw spindle. A force amplifier is arranged below the fixed jaw and is operable by a pushing rod shiftably inserted in the hollow screw spindle. A common driving device rotates the screw spindle into and away from its clamping position. Upon a predetermined clamping force being exceeded the force amplifier is activated by the pushing rod. The movable jaw may be split in upper and lower portions.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 1991Date of Patent: October 12, 1993Assignee: Franz ArnoldInventors: Franz Arnold, Konrad Kreuzer

Patent number: 4270398Abstract: The mechanical amplifier has a wedge-shaped primary member. The primary member is displaceable between two pairs of rollers which are arranged in mirrorimage with respect to a plane of symmetry. All rollers are arranged with their axes parallel, are freely movable, and lie against the wedge-shaped primary member. Two rollers which lie against each other are provided on each side of the wedge member, of which rollers one bears against a stationary abutment surface and the other bears against a co-operating bearing surface of a secondary member. At least one of said bearing surfaces includes with the plane of symmetry an angle of inclination which is less than 90.degree.. A spring assembly which acts on the secondary member causes the rollers and their bearing surfaces to be held in continuous engagement against each other.Type: GrantFiled: October 3, 1979Date of Patent: June 2, 1981Inventor: Franz Arnold

Patent number: 4167192Abstract: A circular brush having two mutually intertwined wire sections serving as a bristle carrier, wherein the bristles of the brush are fixedly clamped between the intertwined wire sections in a helical- or spiral-like manner. A tubular element coaxially surrounds the wire sections. This tubular element is provided with openings at its jacket surface or shell and through such openings there extend towards the outside the ends of the bristles.Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 1977Date of Patent: September 11, 1979Assignee: Trisa Burstenfabrik AG TriengenInventor: Franz Arnold

Patent number: 4073197Abstract: A mechanical power amplifier for a vise having housing means and a primary member and a secondary member mounted therein. At least the primary member is movable in the housing and transmits a force to force amplifying and transmitting structure also mounted in the housing to effect both an amplification of the force transmitted thereto as well as a transfer of the force from the primary member to a force transmitting member. The force amplifying and transmitting structure includes a pair of bell-crank levers arranged in a mirror-image manner relative to the center axis of the housing. Each bell-crank lever has a long lever arm with a wedge surface thereon and a short lever arm. The wedge surface engages a cam surface on the primary member and is movable laterally in response to a movement of the primary member. A pair of laterally spaced rollers are positioned on opposite sides of the center axis of the housing and engage the short lever arm and an abutment surface on the secondary member.Type: GrantFiled: April 19, 1976Date of Patent: February 14, 1978Inventors: Franz Arnold, Oscar Boehm, Ignacio Cenaruzza

Patent number: 4070921Abstract: A screw spindle drive comprising a spindle with one or more thread grooves of circular cross-section, a nut with a complimentary groove or grooves, and a closed ring of balls in each raceway formed by a groove in the spindle and a corresponding groove in the nut has the pitch of each raceway less than the product of the ball diameter and the number of raceways. The thread grooves have a radius of curvature equal to that of the balls but their depth is less than this radius. A return groove in the nut has only to be deep enough to allow the balls to ride over the ridge between turns of the thread groove. The balls can be held by permanent or temporary cages for ease of assembly.Type: GrantFiled: October 21, 1976Date of Patent: January 31, 1978Inventor: Franz Arnold

Patent number: 4067560Abstract: A fluid operated machine vise having a fixed jaw and a movable jaw. The movable jaw includes a hollow spindle threadedly engaged therewith so that upon rotation of the hollow spindle, the movable jaw will be moved toward and away from the fixed jaw. A fluid operated mechanical power amplifier is provided and is connected in association with the movable jaw so that upon application of force by the mechanical power amplifier to the movable jaw, forces greater than would be normally achieved are produced. A stop is provided for limiting the maximum clamping force. The stop limits the effective stroke length of the mechanical power amplifier.Type: GrantFiled: May 25, 1977Date of Patent: January 10, 1978Inventors: Franz Arnold, Angel Lanas

Patent number: 4045010Abstract: An abutment piece adapted to be inserted into a T slot of a machine table and which bears against a lateral surface of the leg section of the T slot by means of an abutment surface and projects beyond the clamping surface of the machine tool table. The abutment piece has a head portion which projects beyond the clamping surface and the width thereof is greater than the slot width of the leg section. The abutment piece has a neck portion received in the T slot and the width of the neck portion is smaller than the slot width. The head portion has on its side facing away from the abutment surface a bearing surface inclined at 45.degree. with respect to the abutment surface and extends toward the neck portion. The bearing surface engages the chamfered outer edge of the lateral surface of the leg section. A wedge element is provided on the neck portion of the abutment piece and is movable parallel to the abutment surface and perpendicularly to the head portion.Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 1976Date of Patent: August 30, 1977Inventor: Franz Arnold

Patent number: 3958335Abstract: Angle setting mechanism, particularly for vises mounted on the table of a machine tool. There is provided an angle setting mechanism for use with vises, primarily on the table of a machine tool, which indicates a preselected angle with respect to said table. The vise is then aligned with respect to, preferably by contact against, said indicating device and clamped in position. In one preferred form of the vise, a guiding anchor member or slide is provided in the T-slot of the table and a block is positioned pivotally with respect thereto. Angle measuring means are provided therebetween whereby said block may be positioned with respect to said guide at a preselected angle and then clamped in such position. The vise is then brought to bear against said block, positioned with an appropriate face in contact therewith in order that the vise may assume said same angle and said vise is then clamped in position. The indicating device may then be removed if desired.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 1974Date of Patent: May 25, 1976Inventors: Franz Arnold, Oscar Boehm

A mechanical or hydraulic power amplifier is arranged in a cylindrical housing connected to the hollow spindle. The secondary or driven member of the power amplifier acts onto a pressure rod. The primary member of the power amplifier is acted upon by a driving element which itself is arranged in a compressed air cylinder adjoining the power amplifier housing. An additional mechanical or hydraulic power amplifier is arranged in the compressed air cylinder between the compressed air piston and the aforementioned primary member.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 1974Date of Patent: March 2, 1976Assignee: Saurer-Allma GmbH, Allgaeuer MaschinenbauInventors: Franz Arnold, Peter Preisenhammer
