  • Publication number: 20190356408
Abstract: A wireless communication system having base stations, remotely located terminal units and a base station controller. The base stations and the remotely located terminal units communicate data over operational wireless communication links between them. The base stations include respective in-channel detectors and out-of-channel detectors for detecting radar or other extraneous received signals. The in-channel detectors analyse signals over the operational communication links. The out-of-channel detectors include respective out-of-channel receiver elements that monitor possibly available channels alternative to the respective operational communication link channels. The base station controller registers whether channels are available or not for communication links, and allocates to the base stations respective target channel parameters including frequencies available for operational and alternative communication links.

  • Patent number: 10465476
Abstract: A downhole support device for use in a wellbore is provided, where the device (200) is adapted to be run into the wellbore (202) through or on a workstring (204). The device (200) comprises an inflatable element (206) adapted to be selectively connectable to the workstring (204). The inflatable element (206) selectively applies a biasing force to an external structure such, for example, a wall (214) of the wellbore (202) when in an inflated state. The inflatable element (206) has an inlet (208) for receiving and being inflated by a flowing substance. The device (200) also comprises an inflation mechanism (210) and a disconnect mechanism (222) adapted to be selectively disconnectable from the workstring (204). A method of deploying a barrier in a wellbore which makes use of the support device is also provided.

  • Patent number: 9422787
Abstract: The present invention relates to a downhole support device (100) for use in a wellbore and which is adapted to be run into the wellbore through an elongate member string (2) such as on a string of tubulars, a coiled tubing string or a slickline. The downhole support device comprises an inflatable element (102), which in use is adapted to be selectively connectable to the elongate member string and is further adapted to apply a biasing force in the direction of the wellbore walls. The inflatable element has an inlet (104) for receiving fluid and/or fluidized solids. The support device is further adapted to be selectively disconnectable from the elongate member string.

  • Publication number: 20020136509
Abstract: For a cable to be laid inside a duct, the invention teaches the addition of “scales”, projections, or roughening outwardly from the cable sheath to help a cable-laying procedure wherein the cable is carried through the duct, from all along its own length, by blown air emitted from behind. Substantial improvements in laying efficiency over existing blown air techniques, with less strain on the cable than if pulled by a winch, and reduced laying costs are claimed. Hence cables may be of lighter construction than that required for conventional laying procedures.

  • Patent number: 6415002
Abstract: A baseband signal modulator provides a phase and amplitude modulated carrier signal. First and second phase modulators each receive a common reference signal and derive therefrom a carrier signal frequency. The phase modulators each receive a respective pair of phase-encoded data signals so as to provide respective first and second phase-encoded carrier. The modulator outputs are summed to provide the phase and amplitude modulated carrier signal. Each phase modulator includes a respective phase locked loop incorporating an oscillator locked via the common reference signal to the carrier signal frequency, and a phase adder having a first input for receiving the carrier frequency signal and having second and third inputs for receiving the respective pair of data encoded signals.

  • Patent number: 6256511
Abstract: This invention relates to a radio transceiver operable in multiple modes. The transceiver is operable, in one embodiment, to communicate with digital and analogue modulation format cellular radio systems. The handset utilizes a novel frequency plan and architecture to enable a minimum level of complexity for dual-moe operation. The frequency plan preferably uses two local oscillators 1LO, 2LO to general all the required frequencies for both the digital and analogue modulation format transceivers, derived from a single reference crystal oscillator. A radio architecture is used to enable switchable dual-mode operation with maximum commonality of functional blocks to facilitate silicon integration.
