  • Patent number: 5915889
Abstract: A polygon shaped cutting tip for a metal workpiece boring tool, the cutting tip having linear side edges lying in a common plane and adjacent side edges which pass tangentially into rounded corner regions. Parts of the corner regions and of the side edges serve as the primary and secondary cutting edges of the tip. A chip breaker edge is arranged at a distance in from the side edges. A chip breaker surface extends from the side edge to the chip breaker edge. The chip breaker edge includes linear sections corresponding to the linear side edges of the tip and has curved sections which correspond to the curved regions of the side edges. The arc of curvature of both the curved regions and the curved sections is the same although the arcuate length of the curved sections is greater. The chip breaker surface extends from the side edges of the corner regions inward toward and downward into the tip at an acute angle where it intersects the chip breaker edges.

  • Patent number: 5730682
Abstract: The invention concerns a method for operation of a drive unit of a vehicle, including a drive machine and a transmission with at least two gears. A quantity that characterizes acceleration of the vehicle and a quantity that characterizes the power of the drive engine are continuously determined. A gear shift speed range and a second speed range bounded by a lowest and highest attainable speed in the target gear can be established for a gear shift process in the initial gear. The gear shift speed range is bounded at least by a lower gear shift speed and an upper gear shift speed and the second speed range is bounded by a lower target speed, as well as an additional speed. The gear shift process is initiated as a function of the determined acceleration. The lower target speed is achieved in a gear shift process in a first limiting stage (high acceleration at low input speeds or limited deceleration at low input speeds) during initiation of a gear shift at a number of gear shift speeds.

  • Patent number: 5149233
Abstract: A reamer with at least one cutter plate that is held by at least one clamping jaw located in a recess in the head of the reamer and having an opening for a clamping screw is proposed, said reamer being distinguished by the fact that the clamping jaw (5) is shaped essentially as a triangle when viewed from the top, that the opening (23) for the clamping screw (7) is located in a corner of the triangle, and that the lateral surfaces of the clamping jaw (5) starting from this corner form guide surfaces (13, 15), which are provided with contact surfaces in the recess (9) in the head of the reamer. By using this clamping jaw, the cutter plate can be optimally clamped and aligned without weakening the main body of the reamer. Both the flank and lateral surfaces of the clamping jaw interact with the stop surfaces in a recess (9) in such a manner that optimal diversion of the clamping forces in the main body of the reamer also takes place.

  • Patent number: 5074721
Abstract: A hard metal cutting blade comprises a blade body having front and rear faces. The blade body is meant for engagement to a tool head and for rotation about a rotation axis. The blade is moved in a feed direction for the fine machining of bores that extend parallel to the rotation axis. The front face of the blade includes a recessed chip face which defines a cutting edge that has a main blade that is followed by a secondary blade. The main blade is divided into two regions, a first region that is almost flush or slightly inclined with respect to the secondary blade, and a second region which inclines at a greater angle and is spaced further from the secondary blade. An abrasion-resistant hard material coats the blade body. This material is ground away from the chip face, at least in the area of the secondary blade, to provide a radius of no more than 5 .mu.m for the edge of the secondary blade.

  • Patent number: 4975002
Abstract: There is disclosed a boring tool which exhibits a cutting head with several cutting plates arranged on the periphery of the cutting head. Each of the cutting plates are pressable with a fastening device against a shoulder of the cutting head. The distances of the cutting plates from the longitudinal axis of the cutting head are slightly different. The cutting heads are staggered with respect to one another in the direction of the longitudinal axis. The cutting plates (1, 2, 3) are formed in a circular shape and are arranged so that the force exerted during operation of the cutting head by the cutting plates compensate each other. The effective cutting edge sections, projecting in an axial plane, continually blend into one another. The boring tool is particularly suitable as a fine boring tool for the production of precision bores.

  • Patent number: 4971483
Abstract: A cutter plate is provided for precision working, especially of holes, which is constructed as a symmetrical polygon with at least four corners and has at least one main cutting edge and one auxiliary cutting edge, as well as a projection which begins at the chip run-off surface of the cutting edges, whose sides serve as chip-guiding steps and whose boundary lines circumscribe a symmetrical polygon, whose shape corresponds to that of the cutter plate, and has smaller dimensions than the latter, so that, starting from the corner regions of the polygon, the width of the chip run-off surfaces decreases. The cutter plate is distinguished by the fact that each chip run-off surface has a plane shape and is inclined in the direction of its longitudinal extension by an angle in such a way that the narrowest region is at the greatest height and is arranged to be above the neighboring chip run-off surface, so that it can be manufactured very simply and economically by a grinding procedure.

  • Patent number: 4954024
Abstract: A precision boring tool for the machining of inner faces of bores with at least one cutting plate, supported by a bracing claw, is disclosed. The cutting plate (2) is tilted versus the plane running through the cutting edge (11) of the cutting plate (2) and the longitudinal axis (17) of the precision boring tool (1). Thus, the bracing claw (3) can be disposed such that it does not protrude into the chip space (4).
