  • Patent number: 4611959
Abstract: Adjustment of the radial position of the tool bit is accomplished by insertion of the bit in a recess of a clamping shoe which clamps the bit against a shoulder in the cutter head. The clamping shoe has an extension which is rotatably mounted in a recess in the cutter head. A single wedge-shaped adjustment member rotates the clamping shoe with the cutter blade thereby changing the radial distance between the cutting edge and the axis of rotation of the tool.

  • Patent number: 4571130
Abstract: A guide member is removably, but self lockingly, mounted on a cutter head. The cutter head has a dovetailed recess which receives the guide member. One side of the recess has bores which accommodate elastic elements which protrude into the recess. Friction coupling between the guide member and the elastic elements prevents axial movement of the guide member.

  • Patent number: 4344724
Abstract: A cutting tool assembly having a cutter head including a pair of jaws defining a slot therebetween with a knife plate having a pair of axially symmetrical cutting edges being exchangeably mounted in the cutter head in the slot between the jaws is provided with a setscrew adjustably connecting the knife plate on the cutter head and with a pair of support members arranged at the base of the slot between the knife plate and the cutter head cooperating with the setscrew to enable adjustment of the knife plate. The support members are internally threaded and interconnected by a bolt having oppositely threaded portions with oblique abutment surfaces being formed on the support members for engagement with the knife plate.

  • Patent number: 4293252
Abstract: A plurality of cutting plates are mounted in a recess forming a mouth at one end of a drill bit and each cutting plate has a plurality of cutting edges. The drill bit mouth provides chip removal. In the cutting position, the cutting plates are arranged in a plane extending in the direction of the axis of rotation of the drill bit and the cutting edges are arranged in a step-wise manner. The cutting plates can be turned for arranging different ones of the cutting edges in the cutting position. The cutting plates extend radially outwardly from the axis of rotation with one plate adjacent the axis of rotation and the at least one other plate extending radially outwardly from it. The cutting plates have a parallelogram shape in the axial plane of the cutting position. In the cutting position, cutting edges of the cutting plates are in parallel relation to one another with adjacent parallel cutting edges on adjacent cutting plates being in contact with one another.

  • Patent number: 4279550
Abstract: The cutting head of a boring tool has a cylindrically arcuate face about the axis of rotation and a radially and axially open groove for release of cooling fluid and chip removal. A single cutting plate is releasably recessed in one wall of the groove and a clamping jaw in the other wall in abutting engagement with the blade whose edge has a primary cutting portion axially projecting from an end portion of the cutting head and a secondary cutting portion radially projecting from the arcuate carrier face.

  • Patent number: 4211507
Abstract: The cutter head of a rotary cutting head is formed with three pairs of recesses separated by a wall portion of the head. An abutment member is received in one recess of each pair, and a tool bit in the other recess in such a manner that a cutting edge of the bit projects from the cutter head. A threaded fastener engages the bit and the abutment member and clamps the bit to the wall portion, thereby releasably fastening the bit to the head.

  • Patent number: 4200418
Abstract: The cutting head and shank of a floating reamer are connected for joint rotation about the shank axis and limited radial movement of the head on the shank by a reduced axial end portion of the shank being spacedly enveloped by an annular axial flange on the head and fastened to the flange by a pin diametrically passing through a bore in the end portion of the shank which is lined with a tubular ball bearing. The clearance between the flange and the end portion of the shank defines the available radial head movement.

  • Patent number: 4199284
Abstract: A conical reamer having an elongated, longitudinally tapering head formed with two longitudinal flutes and rotated about its longitudinal axis by an integral shank portion. An axially elongated groove continuously adjacent each flute is open in a forward, and closed in a rearward direction and receives an axially elongated, reversible cutting blade having a cutting edge exposed in the flute. A frontal end face of the blade diverges obliquely from a plane perpendicular to the reamer axis at one acute angle in a radial direction toward the axis, and at a second acute angle in a direction circumferential relative to the axis. The end face is conformingly engaged in area contact by an abutment face of a clamping ring under the pressure of a clamping screw on the head.

  • Patent number: 4166711
Abstract: The replaceable, annular cutter of a chucking reamer is coaxially centered on the shank by an axial clamping stud partly received in respective bores of the cutter and the shank by engagement of tapering annular faces on the head of the stud and about the bore orifice in the front face of the cutter, the stud being urged inward of the bore by a set screw on the shank engaging an obliquely sloping face of the stud portion conformingly received in the shank bore, the stud being received in the cutter bore with radial clearance.

  • Patent number: 4102594
Abstract: A floating reamer whose cutting head is axially secured to the shank but movable transversely to the parallel axes of the shank and the cutting head toward and away from a position of coincidence of the axes. Pairs of slidably engaged respective guide faces on one axial end of the shank and on the head are parallel and substantially perpendicular to the axes respectively. Two cutting blades project from the cutting head in opposite radial directions and are normally fixed to the head.

  • Patent number: 4076445
Abstract: In a reamer having two diametrically opposite, replaceable cutting blades on its cutter head, an axially elongated rib having a circumferential face approximately cylindrical about the axis of rotation is arranged in each of the two gaps circumferentially bounded by the cutting edges of the blades, thereby assuming the guide function of conventional multiple blades in the reamed hole, and permitting the blade edges to be provided with a relief angle of 5.degree. or more.
