    Abstract: The present invention relates to a self-raising window covering and a control mechanism for the window covering. In particular, the window covering includes a drive unit, such as constant force spring, that is adapted to apply a substantially constant rotational force on the drive axle. A cord winding assembly is coaxially mounted on the drive axle, and includes at least one winding drum operatively connected to a second end of the raising cord and having a tapered portion, as well as a rotatable positioning member for moving the cord winding assembly laterally along the drive axle upon rotation of the positioning member. The cord winding assembly is adapted to translate the rotational force on the drive axle to a raising force on the raising cord, wherein the raising force is greater than a downward force exerted by the shade element and bottom rail throughout the range of opening and closing.

Each of the plurality of rows is collapsible and includes a pair of opposed longitudinal regions. The distance between the opposed longitudinal regions is varied by moving the securement cord member, the opening cord member, or both. The rows are also tilted into an open or closed position by moving the securement cord member, the opening cord member, or both. A bottom rail may also be provided and suspended from the head rail such that the plurality of rows are located between the head rail and the bottom rail.

The second surface of the second material is secured to the first surface over the greater width portion of the first material along a plurality longitudinally extending locations on the second surface of the second material to form a row. A longitudinally extending crease is also formed in the first material such that the lesser width portion and the greater width portion of the first material lie on opposite sides of the crease.

    Abstract: A cordless window covering having a differential suspension mechanism. The suspension mechanism is composed of a first rotary drum for winding and unwinding the suspension cord of a window covering and a second rotary drum housing a spring with one end connected to the second rotary drum and the other end of the spring connected to an axle. Rotation of the first rotary drum and at least one end of the spring are linked by a transmission system. In operation, the transmission system creates a differential rotation rate between the first rotary drum and the relative rotation rate of the two ends of the spring. In this manner, a greater length of cord can be deployed for with a shorter length of spring extension.
