Abstract: A storage medium stores a set of program instructions including: acquiring a number of at least one virtual unit with which at least one of a plurality of storage units is associated, the number of at least one virtual unit being set smaller than a total number of the plurality of storage units; receiving, from an operating system, a first command that specifies one of the at least one virtual unit; registering, as an accessible storage unit, a single storage unit from among the at least one of the plurality of storage units that is associated with the one of the at least one virtual unit specified by the first command, the single storage unit being in condition for communicating data with a data processing device; and outputting, to a peripheral device, a second command that specifies the accessible storage unit based on the first command.

Abstract: A communication system includes a host device and a peripheral device which are communicate with each other according to a main communication protocol that allows the command to be transmitted only from the host device to the peripheral device. The peripheral device accepts an input and to generate a trigger that urges the host device to start a target communication event in accordance with the input. The host device issues a trigger report request command to the peripheral device. The peripheral device transmits trigger generation report information containing a presence or absence of a generation of the trigger to the host device in response to the trigger report request command. The host device receives the trigger generation report information, determines the presence or absence of the generation of the trigger and starts the target event if the presence of the generation of the trigger is determined.

Abstract: A communications system including a host device and a peripheral device connected to the host device wherein the host device issues commands to the peripheral device and the peripheral device executes data processing and replies to the host device, and wherein the peripheral device includes an image processing unit, a storage device a selection operating unit, and a trigger generating unit, wherein the host device transmits a first command to the peripheral device, the peripheral device transmits response information, the host device judges whether a trigger is generated in the peripheral device and transmits a second command requesting the peripheral device to transmit identification information the peripheral device transmits the response information to the host device, the host device instructs the peripheral device to read the image data from the storage device to transmit to the host device, and stores the image data in a predetermined storage area thereof.

Abstract: A removable medium device, configured to transmit information stored in a removable medium via a network based on a predetermined communication protocol, includes a reduced image generating system that reduces each of a plurality of original images in the removable medium and generate a reduced screen image in which the plurality of reduced images are arranged, an image file generating system that generates an image file including the reduced screen image and image specifying information for specifying an original image in the removable medium for each of the plurality of reduced images, an image file sending system that sends the image file via the network, and an original image sending system that, in response to receiving image specifying information by which one of the plurality of original images in the removable medium is specified, sends the original image specified by the received image specifying information.

Abstract: A communication system that performs data communications based on an SCSI command defined in the SCSI standard, the communication system includes; a peripheral device that performs at least one of writing and reading to/from a recording medium inserted into a slot; and an information processing device connected to the peripheral device, including: an OS kernel; an adding unit that adds communication data to a free area of Inquiry data generated by issuing Inquiry command to the OS kernel; and a transmitting unit that transmits the Inquiry data to the peripheral device including the communication data added by the adding unit, wherein the peripheral device includes: a receiving unit that receives the Inquiry data transmitted by the transmitting unit; and an extracting unit that extracts the communication data added to the received Inquiry data.

Abstract: A multifunction device includes a plurality of slots capable of accepting the insertion of media. Initially, the multifunction device is set to a single drive mode (automatic switching mode) and subsequently is set to a multi-drive mode upon receiving a GET_MAX_LUN command from a personal computer. In the single drive mode, a drive is assigned only to one slot in which a medium has been first inserted. In the multi-drive mode, drives are assigned for all of the slots respectively.
