  • Publication number: 20020030816
Abstract: A portable information processor includes a computer main body and a digitizer connected by a flexible hinge defined in a cover. The hinge allows the computer main body and the digitizer to assume different superposed states by means of a flexible separable portion of the cover. In the superposed state of the computer main body and the digitizer, arbitrariness in folding back the separable portion causes runout between the computer main body and the digitizer. In spite of this runout, the superposed state can be accurately detected by means of an optical sensor, including an infrared radiator and an infrared-ray detector, disposed in the computer main body. A flexible reflection member is fixed to a predetermined surface of the separable portion of the leather cover, while assuring a predetermined area. If the computer main body and the digitizer assume a superposed state, light emitted from the infrared radiator is reflected by the flexible reflection member and is incident on the infrared-ray detector.

  • Patent number: 5768095
Abstract: A portable computer is adapted for use with an overhead projector and includes a main body having a keyboard on its upper face and a lid, which is hinged to the rear edge of the main body. The lid includes front and back portions. The front lid portion includes a liquid crystal display, a driver for the display, and a backlight. The back lid portion includes a light diffuser that diffuses light emitted by the backlight. The back lid portion is connected to the front lid portion by a latch, which is only accessible to the user when the lid is in the open position, thereby preventing the inadvertent removal of the back lid portion when the lid is closed against the main body. A switch is also provided that detects the removal of the back lid portion and cuts off the drive current to the backlight in the front lid portion.

  • Patent number: 5576929
Abstract: A latch mechanism which engages with a main body is provided at pivoting edges of a keyboard and a cover which are provided at the main body so as to be openable and closable. The latch mechanism includes a latch member which is movable from a first position, at which the cover and the keyboard are engaged with the main body, to a second position, at which the engaged state of the cover and the keyboard with the main body is released. The latch member releases only the engaged state of the main body and the cover at a third position which is between the first position and the second position. Further, the latch member is usually urged to the first position by a compression coil spring which deforms upwardly in a convex shape at the second position of the latch member.
