Patent number: 5736049Abstract: A method for controlling odor in a waste water lagoon comprises the steps of aerating a top horizontal layer of a lagoon adjacent its upper surface at a depth of approximately 12 to 24 inches by introducing air through a plurality of nozzles submerged in the layer to create a plurality of air bubbles in the layer. The nozzles are moved horizontally through the layer. A device for controlling the odor in waste water lagoons includes a support structure with an elongated boom operatively secured to the support structure and extending outwardly therefrom to operatively contact water in an adjacent lagoon. Compressed air is delivered through a plurality of downwardly extending nozzles on the boom into a layer of water on the top of the lagoon approximately 12 to 24 inches deep. Power elements are secured to the boom to cause the boom to move horizontally with respect to the lagoon while the compressed air is being delivered through the nozzles.Type: GrantFiled: February 6, 1997Date of Patent: April 7, 1998Assignee: Iowa State University Research Foundation, Inc.Inventors: Dwaine S. Patent number: 5723158Abstract: A method and apparatus for producing shredded food products, such as cheese, is disclosed. The method and apparatus permits the production of cheese shreds to be accomplished in a unified operation wherein a sheet of cheese is produced and that sheet of cheese is cut to desired dimensions directly from the casting line. An arrangement of the invention may comprise a sheet former, a casting line, and a shredding assembly, all of which function as a single unit. The shredding assembly, itself a unique arrangement, first slices the incoming sheet of cheese into ribbons, and then cuts each of these ribbons to length. The sheet of cheese may be sliced into ribbons by passing the cheese through a pair of rollers having grooves or slots machined into their surfaces, the width of the slots corresponding to the desired width of the cheese ribbons. The cheese ribbons are presented to a plurality of transversely mounted elongate blades, each of which revolves about a common axis.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 1997Date of Patent: March 3, 1998Assignee: Schreiber Foods, Inc.Inventors: Orville C. Fager, Scott G. Andrews, Dennis R. Ferdon, David James Garnett, Matthew Taylor Stenzel

The unitized roller-seal includes a housing having a bore therethrough with an inner radial flange, a sealed roller bearing seated within the bore on one side of the radial flange within the housing, a lip seal member seated within the bore on the other side of the inner radial flange within the housing. The unitized roller-seal is secured and sealed to the pump casing. The pump shaft is rotatably supported in a sealed bearing housing, and extends through the roller bearing and lip seal member of the roller-seal such that the roller-seal stabilizes the shaft juxtaposed to the sealing surface where the lip seal member engages the shaft. The shaft may have an integral sleeve extending within the unitized roller-seal with a hard coated surface for engagement by the lip seal member.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 1995Date of Patent: September 24, 1996Inventor: Darrell G. Patent number: 5227260Abstract: The preferred embodiment of the present invention relates to a sealed, oxygen recombinant lead-acid battery which includes a series of modules, e.g. 4-volt modules. The modules are prepared from frame and film assemblies which are easily stacked to the desired voltage or capacity. In the preferred embodiment, the assemblies include two 2.0 normal voltage cells, attached in series, three of which are then combined to form a 12-volt system. Modularity eliminates the need for expensive tooling and parts inventory and permits the creation of a wide variety of battery designs. Specially designed vents are employed to permit gas escape during overcharge or if recombination efficiencies are less than desired and to prevent entry of oxygen or moisture when the battery is in its recombinant mode.Type: GrantFiled: November 4, 1991Date of Patent: July 13, 1993Assignee: Globe-Union, Inc.Inventors: Jennifer L. Patent number: 5024807Abstract: A fuel assembly has a spring detent spacer grid of intersecting strips for capturing and retaining deleterious debris carried by reactor coolant before it enters the active region of a fuel assembly. A plurality of fuel end caps are peripherally grooved to receive springs projecting from the strips. The end caps are thus captured by springs and debris is wedged and trapped on opposite sides of the strip and against the end caps by pairs of adjacent integral leaves projecting from the stips intermediate and substantially symmetrically arranged about their intersections.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 1988Date of Patent: June 18, 1991Assignee: Combustion Engineering, Inc.Inventors: Stephen C. Patent number: 4977370Abstract: A test fixture useful in testing printed circuit boards requires wire-wrapping only on a single side of a single board and is characterized by a reduced signal path length. The test fixture is provided with a translator device for conducting signals between system contact points in a testing system and contact points corresponding to selected locations on a unit-under-test ("UUT"). The translator device includes extended system pins, non-extended system pins, UUT pins and through-posts. On one side of the translator board, the UUT pins are wire-wrapped to the extended system pins wherever space allows, and otherwise to the through pins. The through pins make electrical contact to the non-extended system pins by means of conductive pads disposed on the other side of the translator board. A method of fabricating such a test fixture includes the step of computing optimal UUT and through-post locations.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 1988Date of Patent: December 11, 1990Assignee: Genrad, Inc.Inventor: Harold G. Patent number: 4912638Abstract: An apparatus for testing and teaching the lifting capacity and technique of a user includes a brake or clutch for resisting user input force which is controlled by feedback from sensors through a computer. Several operating modes can be chosen, including isometric, isokinetic, isotonic and a special accommodating isotonic which simulates lifting a real object as long as the user exerts enough force, but decreases a resisting force when it is more than the user can handle. A motor is used to substantially eliminate inherent system resistance.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 1988Date of Patent: March 27, 1990Inventor: G. Andrew Pratt, Jr.

Patent number: 4869096Abstract: A water bath apparatus for testing pressurized cans of aerosol products in groups for leakers. A spokeless horizontal cylinder is supported and rotatable on trunnions in a tank partly filled with water. The cylinder has end rings which ride on sets of trunnions mounted on opposing walls on the tank interior. Uniformly spaced elongated clamps structurally interconnect the end rings to form the sidewall of the cylinder. Each clamp after loading carries a group of cans down into the water and then upwardly out of the water for unloading. A horizontal tube extends through the tank and through the spokeless interior of the cylinder. An elongated conveyor extends through the top of the tube and the interior of the cylinder. Each clamp is normally closed so as to retain a group of cans to be tested.Type: GrantFiled: May 26, 1988Date of Patent: September 26, 1989Assignee: The Kartridg Pak Co.Inventors: William A. Rickard, William G. Andrews

Patent number: 4664789Abstract: An hydraulic spiral separator (10), for separating minerals, having at least one substantially helical trough (11) of a cross sectional shape comprising a base portion, an upwardly directed wall portion radially outwardly of the base portion and an upwardly directed lip radially inwardly of the base portion. The characterizing feature is that the wall portion is connected to a plurality of support members (12) positioned radially outwardly of the wall, and the lip is free and unconnected directly to any supporting means, which enables a number of spirals to be stacked coaxially thus saving floor space. Optionally the trough (11) is made of flexible material so that by varying the attachment to the support members (12) the trough may be flexed to change its pitch. Inlet pipes (16), and (18) are fitted as are conventional splitters (19) having moveable vanes (21).Type: GrantFiled: January 8, 1986Date of Patent: May 12, 1987Assignee: Minpro Pty.
