  • Patent number: 8221470
Abstract: A fastener assembly for a spinal fixation system that is particularly useful in treatment of pediatric and small-statured patients includes a fastener, an attachment member, and a locking member. The fastener has a lower portion for contacting a bone and an upper portion integral with the lower portion. The upper portion has two open channels. Each channel is configured and dimensioned to receive a portion of a longitudinal or connecting member along its circumference. The attachment member is positionable on the fastener and at least partially covers the channel that receives the longitudinal or connecting member. The locking member is operatively associated with the upper portion of the fastener and secures the attachment member and the longitudinal or connecting member to the fastener.

  • Patent number: 8117279
Abstract: A system and method permits a network management agent executing on a customer premise equipment (CPE) component to determine whether a router is coupled between the CPE component and the cable modem through which the CPE component communicates with a data-over-cable network. The network management agent executing on the CPE component encapsulates the MAC address of the CPE component in a network management message that is sent to a server at the head end of the data-over-cable network. The head end compares the encapsulated MAC address with the MAC address of the device coupled to the cable modem that sent the network management message. If the MAC addresses are not the same, the server at the head end sets a router status element in the network management message response and sends it to the agent executing on the CPE component.

  • Patent number: 8108827
Abstract: Video, stills, panorama, sound and all forms of media as Rich Media in a Multimedia Vehicle Repository (MVR) file editable with a Rich Media Content description file. The Rich Media Content description file enables users to specify a vocabulary that defines the media elements and relations among the media elements thereby permitting the users to easily create and edit the Rich Media Content and compose various raw or compressed Rich Media components using any text editor. A multimedia authoring server side processor accepts the raw formatted Rich Media Content along with description text file in XML format and outputs the Rich Media, text and graphic components as an edited MVR file in accordance with user's design for execution on a multimedia player.

  • Publication number: 20070249321
Abstract: A system that integrates the services offered by providers in the wireless communication industry. The system provides a seamless, efficient and realtime way to connect wireless communication services with other associated services, such as billing and rating engines. Additionally, the system is fully customizable and applicable with general industry standards. The system is also expandable and upgradable without the need to replace the overall infrastructure of the provider. The system, therefore, reduces the administrative costs related to billing and reduces the capital costs related to upgrading and maintaining the core infrastructure of the provider.

  • Publication number: 20070203880
Abstract: A virtual operator and method for performing authentication and service translation. The virtual operator assigns first and second identifiers to subscribers. The virtual operator updates the second identifier when the service provider corresponding to the second identifier changes. When the virtual operator receives a request for authentication, the virtual operator forwards the authentication request to a serving network for authentication. When the virtual operator receives a service request, the virtual operator selects, using network optimization criteria, a network to provide the requested service. The virtual operator translates network protocols when the network forwarding authentication or service request uses a network protocol different from the network performing authentication or the requested service.

  • Publication number: 20070201361
Abstract: A virtual operator and method for rating a charge for connecting to a network from a virtual operator and facilitating analysis of profitability of using a network. The virtual operator receives a Charge Detail Record in real time from a network the virtual operator is using for a service. The virtual operator calculates the current utilization of the network's resources using the received CDR. The virtual operator calculates a rate for connecting to the network, the rate corresponding to the virtual operator's current utilization of the network's resources. The virtual operator further calculates a cost for providing the service, the revenue for providing the service, and the profit based on the difference between the revenue for providing the service and the cost for providing the service.

  • Patent number: 7033816
Abstract: A new gene family involved in cell cycle regulation was discovered. This family has been termed activators of cyclin-dependent kinases (ACDKs). A number of ACDK genes have been cloned and sequenced. Proteins encoded by ACDK genes specifically were shown to interact with CDKs and pRb, and to upregulate the kinase activity of a CDK using pRb as a substrate. Progression of a cell through the cell cycle can be regulated by modulating ACDK expression in the cell.

  • Patent number: 6968366
Abstract: Techniques are provided for managing the creation, storage, search and delivery of rich media optimized for e-commerce in a distributed information network, e.g., the Internet. In an illustrative embodiment, a content creation phase generates rich media content in a single multimedia file in the format of a HotMedia file for delivery to a Rich Media Build Engine (RMBE). Rich media content is extracted from the file using pluggable and modular extractors providing an input to a commerce-based search engine and a full-text search engine. The outputs of the search engine are combined as a search result from which a searchable database directory is created. The output is stored in a conventional database, e.g., DB2. A web client is coupled to the search system through a web server providing a search query to the rich media database and receiving an output from the search engine.

  • Publication number: 20050228388
Abstract: A bone screw is provided having a head and a shank with opposed first and second helical threads extending there around. In one embodiment, the shank has a proximal portion with a constant minor diameter, and a distal portion with a minor diameter that decreases in a proximal-to-distal direction to form a taper. The opposed first and second helical threads preferably define a thread depth that remains constant along the length of the shank. In an exemplary embodiment, a major diameter of the shank at a distal tip of the shank is equal to or less than the minor diameter of the proximal portion of the shank.

  • Patent number: 6954196
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a system and method of reconciling multiple control inputs to a processor and controlling an output in an interface. The method provides a degraded output response when the control inputs are asserted simultaneously, and provides an increased output response when the inputs act individually and alternately. This system and method acts to provide feedback to the operator or operators controlling the inputs so as to encourage the operator(s) to assert the inputs individually, and discourage the operator(s) from asserting the inputs simultaneously.

  • Patent number: 6907563
Abstract: A system and method composes heterogeneous media components into a unified environment for rich spatio-temporal hotlink authoring and action enablement in low-bandwidth presentations. The media client master coupled to the server receives a first heterogeneous media file. The master parses the file to identify the various media tracks in the file, their types, and the object which would render them. When the master encounters a media frame, an internal table is checked to verify whether a media object has been instantiated to handle the corresponding media track. If not, the master fetches the appropriate object from the server and instantiates the object in the media track. The master verifies the frame to determine if an action enablement kernel has been created. If not, the master fetches the appropriate object from the server and instantiates the object in the frame, to activate an action enabler for display of the action.
