  • Publication number: 20240205386
Abstract: In a video coding system, it is proposed to improve the intra prediction based on intra-block copy by allowing a decoder-side refinement allowing further refinement of the block vector obtained from IBC using a template matching process. In this template matching, the decoder searches in an iterative process the best match for the current block (L-shaped) template within the reconstructed area, adjacent to the block vector determined using the IBC 10 prediction. This technique allows to obtain a finer precision that what is possible with IBC while minimizing the amount of coding information. In at least one embodiment where a coarse precision is used for IBC, it allows at the same time to benefit from significant coding gain provided by IBC while providing a much finer precision with reduced signaling of the block vector.

  • Publication number: 20240205412
Abstract: A reconstruction method comprising: obtaining (811) a region predictor for a current region of a picture based on a spatial prediction: obtaining (812) an information representative of a partitioning of the current region into sub-regions: reconstructing (813) at least one residual sub-region based on an intra prediction residual and an intra prediction mode and obtaining a reconstructed residual region from the at least one reconstructed residual sub-region, wherein all reference samples external to the current region used for reconstructing the at least one sub-region are set to zero before reconstructing the at least one residual sub-region: and, reconstructing (814) the current region based on the reconstructed residual region and on the region predictor by adding a final predictor obtained from the region predictor and the reconstructed residual region.

  • Publication number: 20240171756
Abstract: A method, apparatus or system for processing video information can involve determining a prediction block for a current block of picture information based on a comparison of a template associated with the current block to at least one other template associated with at least one other block in an area of decoded picture information, wherein the comparison is based on a constant number of comparisons per pixel independent of a size of the current block; and decoding/encoding the current block based on the prediction block.

  • Publication number: 20240080484
Abstract: A method comprising: obtaining (601) a syntax element associated with video data, wherein said syntax element specifies that a cross-color component transform process in which at least one second color component is transformed based on at least one first color component different from the second color component is to be applied to the video data as a post processing process following a decoding process to be applied to the video data.

  • Publication number: 20230328284
Abstract: Video content frequently seen in gaming content and having a higher probability of being coded in transform skip mode is coded separately from remaining portions of a video coding block before being combined with regular coded portions. This enables more efficient coding of video by reducing the switching between regular coding modes and transform skip modes. The regular coded portion and the transform skip coded portion are combined in an encoder. At a corresponding decoder, inverse operations occur, such that the transform skipped residual portions are decoded and the regularly coded portions are decoded before the portions are combined for a resultant decoded video block.

  • Patent number: 9049543
Abstract: Provided is a method and apparatus for location notification using location context information. In accordance with an embodiment of the disclosure, a mobile device automatically generates location context information that indicates a point of interest in a vicinity of the mobile device. For example, if the user of the mobile device is at home, then the location context information indicates that the user is at home instead of merely indicating latitude/longitude information corresponding to the location of the home. The mobile device displays the location context information in order to convey the location of the mobile device in a manner that is meaningful without the need for a map. Alternatively, or additionally, the mobile device provides the location context information to at least one other device. This serves to inform other users of the location of the mobile device in a manner that is meaningful without the need for a map.
