  • Publication number: 20170055160
Abstract: Techniques for reducing delay in scheduling traffic transmission in an overlapping basic service set (OBSS) environment by modifying backoff mechanisms are disclosed. In some examples, a device (e.g., station (STA) or access point (AP)) may decode at least a portion of a preamble of a received packet to determine whether the packet is sent by a member of an OBSS (e.g., STA or AP from a different BSS). Backoff operations are typically deferred as a result of the decoding. Aspects of the present disclosure provide a method, apparatus, and system to reduce delay in scheduling traffic transmissions by resuming the backoff operations prior to expiration of the period reserved for an OBSS packet by the network allocation vector (NAV). In other words, the device may not honor the NAV of the OBSS packet, and instead perform spatial reuse by transmitting another packet (or signal) on the same frequency channel during the NAV of the OBSS packet.

  • Patent number: 9565622
Abstract: A wireless communication method embeds service related information, including a version of a service associated with the service related information, within an initial wireless access message. The method may also include broadcasting the initial wireless access message including the embedded service related information. Another aspect of the present disclosure includes a wireless communication method that indentifies service related information embedded within an initial wireless access message. The method may also establish a connection with an access node of the wireless communication network to receive a service when a version of a service associated with the service related information satisfies a predetermined condition.

  • Publication number: 20160330757
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are described for wireless communications. A network may employ additional contention based parameters to support MU transmissions and to communicate to other devices a duration that protects MU transmission. For example, a first device may transmit a first message to reserve a subband of shared spectrum. The first message may be addressed to multiple devices and may indicate a channel access deferral duration to other devices within transmission range. The non-addressed devices may refrain from accessing the channel for an indicated duration. The addressed devices that receive the first message may respond to the first message with a second message, which may also be used to reserve the channel. The second message may additionally be used to identify those devices that received the first message. The first device may generate a trigger message based on the received second messages.

  • Publication number: 20160197755
Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to including deferral information in postambles and midambles. An apparatus for wireless communications may generally include a processing system configured to generate a first frame having at least one of a midamble or a postamble that provides an indication of a request for a device to defer transmitting for a duration and an interface configured to output the first frame for transmission. Another apparatus for wireless communications may generally include a processing system configured to generate a frame having at least one of a midamble or a postamble designed to allow a device, after exiting a low-power state, to perform synchronization to the frame and an interface for outputting the frame for transmission.
