  • Patent number: 7476989
Abstract: A dynamic magnet apparatus for generating electrical power adapted to connect with a rectifier and accumulator, including a hollow elongated carrier having two opposite ends, a pair of fixed magnets positioned at outer surface of the opposite ends, a slidable magnet, and a supplemental weight, wherein the hallow elongated carrier is wrapped around by a number of coils, the fixed magnets disposed in polar opposition to the facing slidable magnet, the supplemental weight attached to the slidable magnet for increasing the weight of the slidable magnet. A feature of the present invention is that the supplemental weight can facilitate the slidable magnet traveling back and forth smoothly in the carrier due to a phenomenon of like pole repel of magnets. Another feature is that an inner surface of the carrier and an outer surface of the slidable magnet are of different profile in transverse for facilitating movement therebetween.

  • Publication number: 20080234434
Abstract: A method of making resin composition having excellent wear properties that includes 50 to 99 wt. % of a polycarbonate resin and from 1 to 50 wt. % of a polyolefin that has been modified with at least one functional group selected from a carboxyl, an acid anhydride, an epoxy groups or mixtures containing at least one of the foregoing functional groups, each based on the total combined weight of the resin composition, exclusive of any filler. The resin composition optionally contains an unmodified polyolefin and/or a bi-functional monomer. The resin composition can be molded into articles having improved wear characteristics. The process is a one-step process that improves the efficiency and/or yield of the resin composition as compared to prior-art two-step processes.

  • Publication number: 20080033083
Abstract: A flame retardant thermoplastic composition having excellent physical properties that includes 30 to 90 wt. % of a polycarbonate resin; from 1 to 35 wt. % of an impact modifier; from 0.1 to 15 wt. % of a phosphorus-containing flame retardant, from 1 to 30 wt. % of metal fiber, and from 0.002 to 5 wt. % of a processing additive, each based on the total combined weight of the thermoplastic composition, exclusive of any filler. The processing additive permits flame retardant characteristics to be maintained despite lower levels of flame retardant while the lower levels of flame retardant permit the compositions, and molded samples of these compositions, to have higher HDT and/or impact strengths as compared to compositions having higher levels of flame retardants. A molded sample of the thermoplastic composition is capable of achieving UL94 V0 rating at a thickness of 1.5 mm (±10%). The compositions are useful in forming flame retardant articles having EMI shielding characteristics.

  • Patent number: 7284104
Abstract: Various embodiments of systems and methods for performing volume-based incremental backups are disclosed. A method may involve generating a snappoint of a volume. The snappoint indicates which portions (e.g., blocks or extents) of the volume have been modified between a time at which the snappoint was generated and a time at which a subsequent snappoint was generated. The method may also involve accessing information mapping the file to the volume and, if the snappoint identifies as having been modified any blocks of the volume to which the file maps, copying those blocks from the subsequent snappoint to the backup device. Portions not identified as having been modified by the snappoint are not copied. Program instructions implementing such a method may be stored on a computer accessible medium.

  • Patent number: 7019059
Abstract: It has now been surprisingly found that addition of a phosphorous-containing oxy acid to a glass-filled polycarbonate composition substantially improves its fire retardant performance. Thus, the present invention provides a method for making a flame-retarded glass-filled polycarbonate resin comprising adding to the resin an effective flame-retardant amount of a phosphorous-containing oxy acid. Where appropriate, the melt strength of the polycarbonate is enhanced by the addition of an antidrip agent and the performance can be further enhanced by the addition of a flame retardant. Use of such a composition results in superior fire-retardant performance.

  • Publication number: 20050009968
Abstract: Transparent polycarbonate compositions are made from polycarbonate produced in a base-catalyzed melt polymerization reaction to which an acidic quencher has been added in a 1 to 30-fold molar ratio with respect to the amount of initial basic catalyst; and a potassium perfluoralkane sulfonate and cyclic siloxane containing flame-retardant component. In the composition these components work in combination such that the composition achieves a V0 UL flammability rating at a thickness of 2.0 mm, preferably 1.6 mm, and has a haze of no more than 1%.

  • Patent number: 6790899
Abstract: A combination of a potassium salt of a perfluoroalkane sulfonate and a sodium salt of toluene sulfonic acid, preferably in the presence of an antidrip agent to provide high melt strength, act synergistically to provide flame-retarded polycarbonate compositions at low levels. Thus, a flame-retarded polycarbonate resin can be made by adding to the polycarbonate resin an effective flame-retardant amount of a potassium salt of a perfluoroalkane sulfonate and a sodium salt of toluene sulfonic acid. The two salts may be formulated in advance into an additive composition.
