  • Publication number: 20040240824
Abstract: A reduced size multiplexer and, in particular, a reduced size SONET multiplexer module is provided for use in a reduced size enclosure. The SONET multiplexer module has electrical and optical connectors on its faceplate to provide case in access without having to remove the SONET multiplexer from the enclosure. The SONET multiplexer circuit is configured in a standard Type 400 mechanics circuit board arrangement. The SONET multiplexer module therefore can be inserted into an enclosure in a direction opposite to that in which the coaxial connector projects from the face plate, so that the coaxial connector remains freely accessible outside of the enclosure when the SONET multiplexer module is fully loaded into the enclosure. Coaxial cables and optical fibers can thus be easily coupled to the coaxial and optical connectors, respectively, when the SONET multiplexer circuit is fully loaded into the enclosure.

  • Publication number: 20030154636
Abstract: The coupler has a pair of spaced side frames (25a) in each of which a first hook like aperture (13) is provided for engagement with a first pivot pin provided on an excavator bucket and wherein a locking pin (23) is moveable from and into a locking position in which it prevents the latching hook (17a) from disengage from a second pivot pin (9a), (9b) or (9c) on the bucket there being a plurality of locking positions for the pin to accommodate different buckets. Preferably, a plurality of spaced apertures (27), (29), (31) are formed on each of the side frames (25a), those in one frame being transversely aligned with those in the other frames, and preferably also a plurality of spaced apertures (33, 35) and/or latching surfaces are formed on the latching hook or on an extension thereof, through or against which the locking pin (23) can be passed or can bear to prevent relative movement between the hook (17a) and side frames.

  • Publication number: 20030146733
Abstract: A wireless microphone is provided with a recharging circuit which determines if a battery in the microphone is a rechargeable type and can be safely recharged. The recharging circuitry in the microphone, which could also be included in other handheld wireless devices, determines if a battery is in a charged state where it is difficult to distinguish rechargeable and non-rechargeable batteries. If so the battery is discharged until the battery reaches a charged state where non-rechargeable batteries can be readily distinguished from rechargeable batteries.

  • Patent number: 6595462
Abstract: A device and method for dispensing and measuring a plurality of strands from a single spool of stranded material is disclosed. The device is comprised of a mobile portion on which a plurality of pulleys is mounted. The mobile portion includes a frame mounted on an axle to which tires are attached so that the mobile portion may be wheeled about readily. A stationary portion includes a plurality of pulleys and a supply spool of wire. Stranded material from the supply spool is routed back and forth between the mobile portion and the stationary portion, over the pulleys attached to each, until the number of strands between the mobile portion and the stationary portion corresponds with the desired number. Next the mobile portion is displaced away from the stationary portion a distance equal to the length of strands desired. A distance measurement device is mounted on the mobile portion to aid the user in ascertaining the distance that the mobile portion has moved, thereby indicating the wire length.

  • Patent number: 6585881
Abstract: A process for manufacture of manganese dioxide comprising subjecting an aqueous bath comprising manganese sulfate (MnSO4) and sulfuric acid (H2SO4) to electrolysis in a closed cell wherein the electrolysis bath is maintained at an elevated temperature above 110° C., preferably above 115° C. and at superatmospheric pressure. Desirably the bath can be maintained at an elevated temperature between about 115° C. and 155° C. The electrolysis is carried out preferably at elevated current density of between about 12.5 and 37 Amp/sq. ft (135 and 400 Amp/sq. meter) which allows for smaller or fewer electrolysis units. An MnO2 product having a specific surface area (SSA) within desired range of between 18-45 m2/g can be obtained. A doping agent, preferably a soluble titanium dopant is employed to help obtain the desired specific surface area (SSA) of the MnO2 product. The manganese dioxide product in zinc/MnO2 alkaline cells gives excellent service life, particularly in high power application.

  • Patent number: 6398189
Abstract: A cable lasher is provided for securing a telephone or transmission cable to a support strand strung in the air between adjacent utility poles to prevent sagging of the transmission cable. As the cable lasher traverses a span of the support strand, the lasher pays out a line of lashing wire that is helically wrapped around the cable and the strand to bind them together. A series of tensioning rollers maintains constant tension in the lashing wire at all times to ensure a tight uniform wind. A gearbox translates linear motion of the lasher along the guide wire into rotational motion of a drum portion of the lasher. The rotation of the drum causes the wrapping of the lashing wire about the cable and the strand. A one-way clutch allows the drum to rotate only in one direction when the clutch is engaged in order to prevent any slacking in the wound lashing wire.
