  • Publication number: 20190121989
Abstract: Embodiments described herein provide a system and method for controlling access to electronic files by linking the files to a file access monitoring system, called the file access monitor in this application. The file access monitor then authorizes the use of the one or more files by performing one or more qualifying steps on the accessing computer system. The file access monitor may be a standalone program or an embedded logic within a closed system like an application, an operating system (O/S), an external device like a printer, a web browser or a web browsing application. Access to electronic files can include the exchange, modification, execution, printing, viewing, listening, copying and replication of these files to name a few. A given protected electronic file is transferred from a sending computer system to a receiving computer system for eventual access. The receiving computer may also become the accessing computer should a user on the receiving computer wish to access the transferred file.

  • Patent number: 8406389
Abstract: A system and method for integrating voice and data operations into a single mobile device capable of simultaneously performing data and voice actions. The mobile device working in a network capable of exchanging both cell phone calls and data items to the mobile device. By wearing an earphone or an ear-bud device the user is capable of dealing with voice conversations while working with data centric information related to the current caller. • Patent number: 8346297
Abstract: There is provided a multi-tap keyboard user interface with auditory feedback. In one embodiment, there is provided a method for controlling operation of a mobile device having a plurality of input devices, comprising associating groups of one or more keys of the input devices to define at least one input region and in response to an input received from said input devices, performing an associated action for operating the device, responding equally to any input from a same input region. A repeated input (multi-tap) to a same input region cycles through a plurality of actions associated with the input region. Auditory feedback comprising a vocalized description of the action is provided. The multi-tap keyboard user interface with auditory feedback may adapt a mobile device (e.g. PDA or smart phone) for use by visually impaired users.

  • Patent number: 8121069
Abstract: A system and a method for a wireless communication system (700) for adaptively delivering data to a wireless mobile communication device (702) based upon an availability status of the mobile device (702) in the wireless communication system (700) are disclosed. The wireless communication system (700) includes a host service (704) having data for the mobile device (702); a wireless router system (710) coupled to the host service (704) for determining the availability status of the mobile device (702) in the wireless communication system (700); and a wireless network (724) coupling the wireless router system (710) and the mobile device (702). The host service (704) transmits the data for the mobile device (702) if the availability status of the mobile device (702) is available, and queues the data in the host service (704) if the availability status of the mobile device (702) is unavailable until the availability status of the mobile device (702) becomes available.

  • Patent number: 7606936
Abstract: A system and method for redirecting data to a mobile device having a long-range RF transceiver and a short-range RF transceiver is provided. The system determines whether the mobile device is in physical proximity to the short-range RF network, and if so, redirects data to the mobile device via the short-range RF network, and if not, redirects data to the mobile device via the long-range RF network. Multiple methods for determining the physical location of the mobile device are provided. Also provided is a short-range RF network including a plurality of RF-enabled interface cradles for generating a network of pico-cells within one or more office locations. As a mobile device comes within the vicinity of one of these pico-cells, contact information is provided to the system indicating the phyiscal location of the mobile device.

  • Publication number: 20080109530
Abstract: A scheme for redirecting data items to a user of a mobile data communication device that is associated with a host system and communicates therewith via a wireless network. In one embodiment, a method comprises: maintaining a folder structure at the host system for data items received for a user from one or more senders, the data items being directed to an address associated with the user at the host system, the folder structure having one or more folders in a hierarchical arrangement; determining occurrence of a change in at least one of the folders associated with the user; and responsive to the occurrence of the change, transmitting at least one of a command message and a data message to the user via the wireless network.

  • Publication number: 20080077707
Abstract: A system and method of pushing user-selected data items from a host system to a user's mobile data communication device upon detecting the occurrence of one or more user-defined event triggers is provided. The user may then move (or file) the data items to a particular folder within a folder hierarchy stored in the mobile data communication device, or may execute some other system operation on the data item. Software operating at the mobile device and the host system then synchronizes the folder hierarchy of the mobile device with a folder hierarchy of the host system, and any actions executed on the data items at the mobile device are then automatically replicated on the same data items stored at the host system, thus eliminating the need for the user to manually replicate actions at the host system that have been executed at the mobile data communication device.

  • Publication number: 20080069064
Abstract: A wireless communication system includes mobile devices and a local area network. Local base stations are coupled to the local area network. Each base station has a unique address on the network and is configured to transmit and receive data packets to and from the mobile devices and to transfer the data packets between local base stations over the network using the unique address. A subscription server operates on the network. The subscription server is configured to store data identifying the unique address of the local base station covering each of the mobile devices. The subscription server is further configured to enable the local base stations to locate any one of the mobile devices. A redirection software module is configured to send and receive data packets over a wide-area wireless network to and from mobile devices that are not within range of any of the local base stations.
